The Official "Not Giving Two Craps about California Election" Thread |
|
LOL...
Sorry Californians... I live in Texas, we've got our own problems here.. but ughh.. I cannot WAIT until this damn election is history.
And you know what? I don't care a lick who wins. I can say, Arnold is not a monster. I chuckle at some of the threads. The Kennedy's love him, and he's progressive on some issues, and he's a huge supporter of Special Olympics (my cause). I also think, who the HELL would want that office right now, anyway? My God.. Why is Arnold running? Why is anybody running?
For the record, I do think a recall sets a bad precedent. And if I lived there, I would definitely vote "NO." Course, if I lived there, I guess I would care.
Anybody else with me in wishing this would go away, and go away now? ;) Come join my club.
Or ... begin the usual "Arnold hates women" "Bustamante is a traitor" "Arrianna this, Davis that," LOL
--- Disclaimer: Please read lighthearted tone in my message, not self-important dismissal of Cali's problems.. :)

I think this is not only embarrasing for the state of California...but it also is embarrasing for the entire country...you know that the forgein press has picked up on this...and I can bet that other countries around the world are just laughing at us...
This is one big circus...

2. Well you SHOULD care about what's transpiring in California |
|
as it WILL have an impact on all of us, in some way, shape or form (think 2004, think Florida). This is a GOP scheme, much like the one in your state of Texas with the redistricting, and will be exposed as such (unfortunately probably after the damage is done).
All Democrats will be paying the price for this GOP assault on democracy.
This is ALL of our concern.

6. And folks exactly like you |
|
are the reason this Rovian scheme will succeed.
The folks who are too lazy to find out the truth, to care, and to DO SOMETHING about it.
My heart goes out to all you Californian liberals who are doing what you can to stop this.

4. and we are soooo tired of those texas dems... just get that |
|
stupid story overwith already. Shhheeez. I mean I dont think what Delay is doing is good, or anything. And I guess if I was there I might care. But months and months on the news. shhhhhhhheeeeez.
{/sarcasm}
The precendents being set by the GOP matter. They want us to stop caring. Low voter turnout always benefits them. I need to care about what they are doing in Texas and Colorado with redistricting. In California with the recall (and a nacsent attempt at starting a recall in Wisconsin). This isn't by chance. Orchestrated by the RNC and Rove. We tune out at our own peril.

even here in Texas, we knew it was just classic Texas politics.
Cali is messed up right now. Fix the problem. Be against the recall. But don't get all up in arms about the race itself and act like we're electing the president. For chrissakes, whoever "wins" that office is just stepping into a shit storm!
Let em have it, it will probably blow up in their face!!
UGGHh... here I go again. you can't make me care. I have better things to worry about.

11. As I recall, the rest of DU DID CARE about what went on in Texas! |
|
and the redistricting mess. You could reciprocate and extend that same courtesy - and AT LEAST hold off on your bitching for ANOTHER WEEK!

14. its the precedent of elections suddenly having no meaning |
|
a pattern of trying to overturn elections. Taken across states to see the pattern... it is hard not to notice that todays' GOP is just anti-democracy. That is worth repeating. Why do they hate Democracy so much?

I agree on the precedent.
My anger is better directed at the media I suppose, or perhaps a few of these folks with their sphincters so tightly clenched I can feel the tension all the way over here!! LOL

16. supported and continue to support Texans on this board when others bash |
|
and even though you can just dismiss it as Texas politics, this is California and while I like Texans just fine...I'd much prefer that that brand of politics stay in your state if you really are going to be so accepting of such.
Arnold is a PIG...PIG and progressive are not terms I would use in the same sentence.(except as I just did) ;-)

|
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 07:17 PM by noiretblu
and there is no race if the recall measure is defeated. the election here in california is not until October 7th...something i keep reminding all you folks who don't live here. the possibility of a giant chimp in sacramento is depresssing enough...i wish we could get some support from our fellow DUers.

What if Arnold just goes from state to state, trying to win recall elections until he wins one?
What if he comes to TEXAS!!
No worries, I know you all will help us out. :)

|
Yeah, yeah, I'll do the right thing and vote the right way, but I just turn the channel whenever this topic comes up. That's how much I care about the effed up politics in this state.

8. Do you think you could wait ANOTHER WEEK to post this SHIT?? |
|
There are a LOT of long time DUers, activists, and California citizens in this forum that have, and continue, to WORK THEIR ASSES OFF on this recall, and it's VERY DISHEARTENING to see shit like this posted on DU. It's really pretty RUDE!
There is already another thread like this going, at LEAST you could have the decency to add your fatalist and defeatist comments to that one instead of starting another one. Or instead, how about having a little COMMON COURTESTY for your fellow DUers who are still pouring their BLOOD, SWEAT, AND TEARS INTO THIS!

My apologies to all those hardworking Dems in Cali. This is your fight and I'm sure you're fighting it well.

23. A typical American: "Who gives a damn about democracy, anyhow? |
|
It's too much trouble. Why should I worry? After all, as long as I'm OK personally, what's the big deal?"
Did you feel the same way about the stolen election of 2000? Many people could say, "Well, I still have a good job & live in a nice place. So what the hell."
Arnold IS a monster, BTW - politically speaking. He's not a Bush clone, but he's plenty reactionary. Did you hear the debate, in which he made clear his intention to make EVERY decision on the basis of what's good for business? He kept attacking Workman's Compensation as though it was the spawn of Satan.
