Gas wars--$1.97 a gallon in my town

>>>snip
While gas prices soar to record levels elsewhere in the 4-states area, one corner in Clarksville boasts prices not seen since... last year.

Three weeks ago, a local gas station was purchased, and the new mangement decided to lower its gas prices to two cents below their competitor across the street. The other station followed suit, and a price war was born.

As of Saturday, one station was selling regular unleaded for $1.99 per gallon, with the other selling gas for $1.97.

Drivers came from as far away as Dallas and Oklahoma to take advantage of the lower prices.

10. Well, I started to drive in 1975...
And I had moved from Cleveland to Oregon in 1979....

So, yes the fuel crunch came down hard. It was like a black pale had decended on the country.....

But it was sporadic in nature....

In Cleveland the price doubled over night from about 29.9 to 58 or 59 .....

It was hard cause everyone was driving gas guzzlers like nothing you would see now....

It really effected the economy and the throughout the whole 70's, everyone was worried about inflation....

And it seemed as if when one thing came unde control another would spin out.....

The world itself was in much more turmoil, if you could believe that....

So from 1973 to 1982, the whole country was spiraling down and the mood was ugly........

Change was afoot no one knew how to deal with all that was coming at us.....

Bad times. Much worse than now

11. $2.57 in western New York...........
and it keeps jumping upward daily. Last week I filled up at $2.43 a gallon. $0.14 in one week and no end in sight. Our pretzelnit's "energy policy" is zeroing in in the problems though, right?

12. My head's spinning in NJ.
I went to fill up the tank at 12:30 yesterday afternoon. I was told to come back in 30 minutes after the tank finished emptying its load. I did so and found the price 10 cents higher.

My recommendation: buy sooner than later. Y'never know . . . .

13. Gas prices are freakin ridiculous!
They are at $2.48 here in Tallahassee and I expect they'll go even higher by the end of the week. And I'm sure mister chimpyboy is grinning all the way to the bank!
