Why do people think if Arnold wins that Bush will carry CA? |
|
I think Arnold winning will be the worst thing for Republicans in California. He's going to have to do something, he'll have to make all the unpopular decisions next year. He'll have to make all the cuts, raise taxes, etc.
If he doesn't. He'll have to explain to the public in 2006, when there is a real election, why he should be elected, when he supported the recall of Davis, etc. etc. etc.
Second, if anything recalling Davis helps us in CA and the west in general. If people are upset with Davis for energy problems and huge deficits, why not be equally angry with Bush? You recall Davis, we recall Bush.
Third, the Democrats will still control the legislature and Senate and EVERY SINGLE OTHER STATEWIDE OFFICE. The Governor doesn't control elections and poll sites etc, the Secretary of State does. Who happens to be a Democrat.
I still think Democrats are okay and the poll by Gallup is mostly bullshit. But even if Arnold wins. It won't be doomsday. If anything, it helps us.

2. I think the thing to be concerned about |
|
is that if Schwarzenegger is gov, * will have a campaign infrastructure in place in California. I remember hearing that governors provide presidential candidates with ready-to-go political machines during a campaign.
Your points about CA being a solidly Dem state are true. Still, all you have to do is remember Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris' roles in Florida 2000, and you can see the importance of a governor's party affiliation, IMO.

Electronic voting.
In a fail election, Chimp doesn't stand a chance in CA. However, I'm afraid this next election won't be fair.

5. We already HAVE electronic voting |
|
in some places. I used a punch card last time, but this time might be different (new polling place.) We'll see.

6. I don't think Bush can win California regardless if the robot wins |
|
Clinton won California twice when Wilson was in office. Bush's policies are far too conservative/radical/possibly leaning towards totalitarism to win the electoral votes of this state. If robot wins here I predict his ego will get in the way of trying to compromise with Dems in power and he will go the way of Jesse Ventura.. a disgrace, and a nice set up for Dems to win again in 06. IMHO.

7. I don't doubt that Bush might gain 2-3 %, but |
|
since he's going to lose California by 18 % or so, I'm not worrying too much.
