Here's what the TRUCKERS did in 2000 because of fuel prices
http://archives.cnn.com/2000/US/02/22/trucker.protest.02/

The truckers are frustrated by soaring fuel prices in recent weeks that have added to long-standing disenchantment among truckers over low freight rates and the condition of cargo equipment provided by freight companies.

The Energy Department reported last week that the average national price for diesel fuel was $1.46 a gallon. Diesel prices in New England were the most expensive at $1.93 a gallon and cheapest along the Gulf Coast at $1.39.

The high prices have forced many independent owner-operators to park their rigs, according to the American Trucking Association. The freight hauler trade group has taken no position on the demonstration.

"It used to cost an owner-operator $220 to go a distance, now it costs $500," said Jackquie Medaglia, whose husband is a second-generation owner-operator.

This was not all that long ago. Think it will happen again?????

2. The majority (NOT all) of independent truckers have sold their rigs
They couldn't compete with the Frito-Lays and Central Freights of the world. The time passed about then when a trucker could make a nice living driving. Now they have to run their asses off to break even.

I know several ex independents that are in th unemployment line just like me. Some are hauling gravel, which used to be a lode considered beneath the open road truckers.

6. I still don't understand why the indy's won't do it again (ones left)
or even some of the bigger company drivers. If they all stand together you can't move anything am I right. The drivers of those rigs have control and alwasy will have control. I just wish they would do this kind of protest again but on a massive scale.

3. The Miami protest was pretty big
I think they had like 200 trucks. But the Washington would get a whole lot more MSM coverage....

4. an idea...
truckers should have a email list going at different truck stops and become a political voice.

11. more are with us now
you'd have to be brain damaged or some sort of degenerate to support the bushturd now

but in 2000, the Teamsters helped the bushturd win. Plus an inordinate number of the independent truckers I knew then were ignorant dittohead bushturd morans.
