A lesson to all mothers of teenagers and draft age children. |
|
When your government asks you to make the ultimate sacrifice, your child, in the cause of war, you can look to Cindy Sheehan as to how you will be thanked for this. Left standing in a ditch, harrassed, hot, sunburned and intimidated, while the person who caused your son's death doesn't have the time of day for you.
Happy Mother's Day.

1. In a draft the government doesn't ask for anything |
|
They just up and take you, and it's up to you to resist.
It seems as if the government has been asking for a few years now, and that more and more people are saying no.

2. I mentioned draft-aged children as a demography not a fact, |
|
meaning kids old enough to join up. Sorry for the confusion.

4. Back in the Vietnam war days, going to college could get you |
|
a deferment. We aren't there yet though as there is no draft, just make sure he doesn't get recruited and signs up. This should be the new war protest movement. I will not let my child sign up for the military until Bush is out of office.

...if what I have been telling my daughter will be effective if the draft is ever reinstated. My daughter just turned 18 and is in her Senior year. I don't know about other States, but here in Ohio the Recruiters hassle the kids in School, they call your house, they show up. I went thru this with my sons 2 years ago when they were in their Senior year. My daughter is deathly afraid of a looming draft (she wouldn't last in the military for a day with her mouth...LOL)and has asked me several times what to do if the draft comes. I just keep telling her to repeat the same sentence to recruiters when they approach her - that it is against her moral believe to kill. I tell her not to get into a discussion with these people, just tell them it is against your beliefs and walk away. Maybe this way - if the draft comes the groundwork has been laid for Conscientious Objector Status. I don't know. Anyone have any better ideas?

We'll just have to see how the draft law is written. Also, if you have money , you have more options, like funding an extended vacation abroad for him. Faking homosexuality might be an option, smoking weed before the draft physical, or keeping a conscientious objector file could also be an option. If you decide to do the latter then you should get started on that now.

It's amazing how many people here make carefully crafted defenses of Rangel's excuses for this despicable bill. If a Republican congressman proposed exactly the same thing we'd all be up in arms.

8. My puke legislator weasled out of his 9/11 promise to join the ANG |
|
right away by getting Lasik eye surgery.
A local gadfly Dem harassed him about his off-the-cuff vow to enlist until he signed up just a few days before he was too old to do so, then he had the Lasik surgery and got a six month deferment while he was healing. He did eventually go to boot camp, but claimed he had no idea having Lasik surgery would delay it. Yeah, right.
Still, should the draft arrive, I'm starting a list of things my son can do to at least delay entry if not prevent it all together.

10. One thing that people can understand in this country |
|
and that is the love of your family. That is a bond that is strong with most of us, so a lot of people and I mean from both sides of the aisle are for Cindy and understand.
They are putting themselves in her place and asking themselves what they would do? She is putting her son's name on the lips of every American in this country and that in itself is an honor to her son.
