PHOTO: Larry Mattlage, who came out shooting during a prayer service
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 08:50 PM by Bluebear
Nope. Very sorry for his inconvenience. But I am not sending him a CandyGram. He said "let the President have his vacation like everybody else!" Everybody else does not start a war then take five weeks off. I don't want to antagonize him further, because frankly I think he is a little off kilter. But I will not be contributing to sending him Omaha steaks, fair enough?

====

Land owner Larry Mattlage looks out from his ranch across the street from Cindy Sheehan's camp near Crawford, Texas, Sunday, Aug. 14, 2005. During a prayer service, Mattlage came out and fired his hunting shotgun into the air then put up a no parking sign. Mattlage says that the protestors should go home and he will continue to fire his gun until they do. Mattlage's gun play, although legal in Texas, did get him a visit from Secrete Service and local sheriff deputies. (AP Photo/LM Otero)

5. Fuck the Omaha Steaks
Don't waste your money on that. This guy says he's going to go "underneath the law" and he invited all rednecks in Texas to come out and shoot on his property to try to scare off protesters. He doesn't need any damn steaks. A gag gift is fine. But no matter how much ya'll are planning to spend, he's still going to be one cracked motherfucker who wants you gone.

13. Amazing that a W neighbor feels okay about firing a shotgun in the air
All the measures they take to protect the White House with security barricades. But here's this guy living at the ranch right next door to W's ass - and he's out there getting snarky from suds on a Sunday morning and firing off his shotgun to intimidate people.

It just now struck me as a very strange contrast between D.C. and W's ranch neighborhood.

We don't even look up for gun shots!! Kind of like when car alarms go off nowadays. No one even looks up. Hopefully, the visit from the SS will convince him to stop discharging his weapon in such close proximity to * A.K.A. the anti-Christ.

and if this guy were not under a lot of surveillance the situation would be more threatening. However I've seen scarier characters than Larry. A peace offering could diffuse the situation. If it doesn't work, oh well.

45. since there are no laws
that sufficiently protect against this kind of threat (and it is a threat that should be directly addressed by the sheriff but they don't have the power) --

then I guess it might come down to trying to pay people off for the "right" to be on public property without threat. Sort of like paying the gang bosses I guess. Intrude on my territory and you "owe" me...

I think I'd try steaks first, then maybe ask him what his price would be to leave the demonstrators alone until the end of August.

When you live in a country where the legal system does not support you, I'm all for creative means to diffuse a potentially nasty situation.

At least until your burning smiley cools off.

Yeah, that's me. Enabling the division.

And since you edited to add more, what is bothering you? That some people here find his actions reprehensible? I just now learned that he interrupted a prayer service with his antics, and I'm not religious. But if you think he is so reachable, have at it.

He should rake in a nice amount of money from leasing his land to the MSM. Like I said before, people fire guns down here all the time. Just like him. He probably did it as a publicity stunt.

of the Coors he carries in his truck. Someone posted earlier that he had Coors and his gun in the back of the pick-up. And as for the steaks, I would not contribute a penny for him. Why? To appease him? Who wants to do that? It would not change a thing. Anyhow --I am sure he is happy with the money he will get from MSNBC for the use of his land.I heard earlier that he had cut a deal with them.

Shoot the shotgun off into the air (so as not to harm anyone) and Larry is now the darling of CNN and FOX et al.

He cracked that cooler open too early on a Sunday morning. He's just an idiot.
