there AIN'T no Democratic Opposition Party
a few voices in the wilderness, maxine waters, john conyers, a tiny fraction of democratic leaders who actually, concretely oppose the bushfuckers, such a small percentage that they are really practically non existent.

oh where, oh where have the democrats gone, oh where, oh where can they be?

1. You're alway such a ray of sunshine, mopaul.
Not that you don't have a point, but such a cloud of gloom before my morning coffee is grinding, man.

:hangover: :donut:

4. Thank you, mopaul.
Everytime I've suggested this, someone jumps down my throat and start up with how Dem leaders are doing the best they can, given their numbers, or some such crap. Truth is that very (may I emphasize VERY) few of them are willing to open their mouths about anything. WE HAVE NO LEADERS! Not one of these incumbents are deserving of a vote.

6. Gee, I dunno, mopaul.
The Democratic Opposition's been doing a fairly effective job of resisting us.

Ya gotta give 'em that.

And, personally, I give them some credit whenever they don't just cut and run. They've been getting their asses kicked (of course, they don't call it that) -- and flight is the natural instinct in these circumstances.

But then, generally I maintain low expectations... And these low expectations are rarely "disappointed" by unexpectedly good results.

7. Has there ever been much of an opposition to US Imperialism from Congress?
" Within the affluent democracy, the affluent discussion prevails, and within the established framework, it is tolerant to a large extent. All points of view can be heard: the Communist and the Fascist, the Left and the Right, the white and the Negro, the crusaders for armament and for disarmament. Moreover, in endlessly dragging debates over the media, the stupid opinion is treated with the same respect as the intelligent one, the misinformed may talk as long as the informed, and propaganda rides along with education, truth with falsehood. This pure toleration of sense and nonsense is justified by the democratic argument that nobody, neither group nor individual, is in possession of the truth and capable of defining what is right and wrong, good and bad. Therefore, all contesting opinions must be submitted to 'the people' for its deliberation and choice. But I have already suggested that the democratic argument implies a necessary condition, namely, that the people must be capable of deliberating and choosing on the basis of knowledge, that they must have access to authentic information, and that, on this. basis, their evaluation must be the result of autonomous thought."

This from DUer Dirk from Germany:
What makes me really afraid and what I do not understand about the USA: former Empires tried to let the people in their own country somehow benefit from Imperialism. But although Bush doesn't even offer them that and the economic situation of the middle class, not to mention the situation of the poor in the USA is getting worse, there's still no kind of rebellion.
I simply do not understand this. For decades now, the majority of the Americans do not even have a party in congress that represents their interests, but they simply do not care.
