Leave my family alone by Cindy Sheehan on Daily Kos.
Leave my family alone

by CindySheehan
Mon Aug 15th, 2005 at 01:44:40 PDT

I apparently am the sacrificial lamb of the peace movement. I don't care about myself. Putting myself in the forefront and daring to challenge the president on his lies left myself open to the attacks. Which are, of course, half truths and distortions.

CindySheehan's diary :: ::
When they start sliming my home life and my family, that's where I draw the line. Yes, my husband has filed for divorce and yes he filed before I left for the VFP Convention and this trip to Crawford and yes IT IS BETWEEN MY HUSBAND AND I.

Having Casey murdered in Iraq by George Bush's reckless policies has been hard enough on my family, but me setting off on my holy war to bring the troops home, my constant absences, and all of the media attention has put additional stresses on my family.

I chose my path after Casey died. The rest of the family has chosen theirs. We all still love each other and support each other in anything that we do. We didn't want Casey to join the Army, but once he made that decision, we supported him and even encouraged him through boot camp.

We are a normal American family who have had good times, bad times, and terrible times. We hope the good times will come back. We hope that we will be able to laugh with abandon together like we used to one day. We hope that the troops come home and no other families have to go through what we are going through.

It isn't about politics for us. No one asked Casey what political affiliation he was before they sent him off to die in Iraq and no one asked us who we voted for in 2000 before we were handed a folded flag from Casey's flag-draped coffin.

I am not perfect and I never even claimed to be perfect. My family isn't perfect, but we are pretty special...especially the children. We all miss Casey so much and it is George Bush and his neocon cabal who is at fault. The people who are dragging my family through the mud need to grow up and look at themselves. The Christ said: "He who is without sin, cast the first stone."

If everyone followed Jesus's advice, the world would be a much better place.

3. Well said, Cindy (as usual)
The death of your son ripped your family apart. Why hasn't the MSM talked about that?

12. The M$M is afraid of her
Even with all of the coverage, how many of the big shot talking heads have actually talked to Cindy directly. Why isn't Barbara Wa-Wa running down to Crawford to ask all the personal questions? Where's Perky Paula to give Cindy 1/2 hour of prime time coverage? This has become a big story but I guess they're still too busy looking for missing white girls to bother.

6. Unfortunately, the righwing loves to exacerbate friction within families.
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 08:07 AM by Crankie Avalon
Look at the meal they made out of division between in-laws in the Terri Schiavo episode.

They will stop at nothing to try to silence those who are "inconvenient" to them, and they will inflame whatever tensions they can find and/or generate in families to do it.

That's just neocon "family values," for you.

7. Well put, Cindy.
You're touching a nerve, and the pigs are throwing everything they can at you.

I...smell...desperation.

God be with you Cindy Sheehan.

8. It's a good move to strike back
This was the error made by Kerry with the swiftliars; he didn't strike back.

The republicans probably won't know how to handle it, no one ever talks back to the regime.

20. I don't know who will find it
It is impossible to figure out what is wrong with our media. Old Larry shooting in the air garnered more attention. He is on CNN right now repeated over and over portapotties from hell.
She still has to hit back so the rumors and family smearing can be answered by "us"(dems).

11. We are praying for you Cindy.
May God give you strength as you continue on your journey. I am so sorry about your marriage. Hopefully, someday you and your husband may find each other again. It is rare that a marriage survives the death of a child. People should not slander you and make it seem like your vigil for your son is the cause of your marital issues. You lost a child unnecessarily in this illegal war. I can not imagine the pain of that.

Isn't it bad enough she has lost a child? No, some people gotta get down in the mud and swim with stupid ass questions about her family.

to know. She speaks with eloquence, common sense and dignity. The things that our leadership in this country sorely lacks of today.

16. As I re-read this, I was most amazed
by the simple fact that she takes responsibility for the effect her actions have on others. In that one line - "me setting off on my holy war to bring the troops home, my constant absences, and all of the media attention has put additional stresses on my family" - she shows a moral awareness of actions and consequences that this entire administration denies at every turn. Meanwhile all Bush can says is that he wants to "get on" with his life.

17. Absolutely...
...this is NOT about Cindy so much as its about Bush being accountable and owning up to the wrongheadedness of his narrow view of reality. It's a mistake to surround yourself with yes-men that say only what you want to hear, and then complain and blame the yes-men (and then promote them) for the "bad intel" he bases his decisions on. Bush is an appauling judge of character.

I suppose smearing and harrassing the families of our fallen soldiers is the Repuke way of "respecting our troops." :eyes:

26. Another broken marriage, another casuality of Bush's America
not only do the soldiers divorce at an exrtremely high rate, so do the parents of the falled and maimed. Statistics show that parents of a child who died have a verty poor chance of staying together. It is too much to bear for some.
