First Ladies-What's everyone's opinion? |
|
I've often seen discussed in this forum different opinions on the various presidents, but what is everyone's opinion on different first ladies? Many seem to have very different views as opposed to their husbands, while others seem to mirror them to a tee.

1. Mostly, they've been alright. |
|
I can't think of a first lady who has been particularly odious/haughty/whatever (though the Bush wives have that eerie eye thing, and its since been revealed that at least Barbara is a dark hearted meanie)... I think Hillary Clinton stands out to me because I know she was actually *working* and *doing* something during her time there besides having teas and reading to children. Similarly, Eleanor Roosevelt.

the meanest. Pat Nixon the surliest. Jackie Kennedy the most sophisticated. Bess Truman the most human. Of course, Eleanor was the best.

3. You're right about Barbara Bush |
|
Barbara Bush is one mean bitch who got a free ride from the press (what's new for the Bush Family?). She called Geraldine Ferraro a 'bitch' during the 1988 presidential campaign, and apparently BB is known for her ugly, vindictive streak. What could one expect from the person who produced Neil, George, and Jeb? Isn't there a fourth son lurking around somewhere? We ought to classify BB's uterus as a 'weapon of mass destruction. . .' She's a nauseating person who most certainly has a profound sense of entitlement.

4. I actually have to say that I've greatly admired Betty Ford |
|
I know her husband was a Repuke, but she always seemed like a very classy and intelligent lady to me. As for the rest, I love Bess Truman and Rosalynn Carter. I have to admit that I used to like Barbara Bush, until her true colors began to show (she was a strong believer in fighting illiteracy, which is an issue that I've often taken up). I've never really liked Laura Bush, and Nancy Reagan always seemed slightly bizarre, as did Mamie Eisenhower. Jackie was so classy, and Eleanor was just wonderful. I obviously like Hillary, of the earlier first ladies, I really liked Dolly Madison and Abigail Adams. My fave first ladies would probably be Carter, Truman, and Edith Wilson.
Additionally, if Tipper Gore had been first lady, I'm positive that she would've also been one of my favorites. She is one of my absolute favorite people in politics, and I was severely disappointed when she didn't run against Lamar! in 2002.

Roselyn Carter, Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford, Bess Truman was pretty cool - and some were flat out abysmal. Babs, Laura, Pat Nixon, and I can't believe no one has mentioned the evil antichrist of first ladies - Nancy Reagan. :puke:

22. ah, let us not forget |
|
what a thieving conniver she was. All those designer gowns and jewels she "borrowed" and never returned?
Remember Nancy buying that outrageously priced and extraordinarily tacky set of china back in the late 80's when a lot of us were unemployed?
And let's not forget her triumph in the "casting adoring eyes at the hubby" contest. :puke:
That nasty, badly dressed, anorexic pixie...
