Abu Ghraib update...where to find?
In another thread- and of course I neglected to bookmark it- someone mentioned that today the judge would give their ruling. Does anyone know if this is correct? If not, does anyone have any idea when a ruling is expected(even generally)?

Thank you very much for any help you may provide. I believe as soon as the judge gives their ruling, they're going to throw the book at these cowards and order the immediate release of the photos/videos.

Thank you,

PB

1. I admire your optimism.
but I do not share it.
I was hoping for their release, but I believe they have set the course for their stonewall solidly. I do not think they will ever be released.

2. From ACLU's website

"The ACLU is also engaged in an ongoing dispute over the government's efforts to keep some of its legal documents in the case under seal and to conduct court hearings behind closed doors, including a hearing scheduled for this Monday, August 15. Depending on the court's ruling on the sealing order during the first part of that hearing, arguments regarding the photos and videos may be opened to the media and the public."

3. "Judge to decide on release of new Iraq prison abuse photos"
WASHINGTON — A showdown is set for Monday in a New York federal court over the Defense Department's refusal to release a new batch of photographs and videos showing U.S. soldiers abusing detainees in Iraq.

The 87 photographs and four videos were taken by Spc. Joseph M. Darby, the Army military policeman who ignited an international maelstrom last year when he turned over photos to authorities that revealed soldiers mistreating, sexually humiliating and threatening inmates at the Abu Ghraib prison west of Baghdad.

4. Thank you for the information! Wow!
"After hearing arguments Monday, Hellerstein will decide whether Darby's images should be released to the public and whether the government improperly redacted significant portions of their legal filings in the case."

But when after?

5. The Vulcan mind meld
I just posted the same question.

Even though there has been no talk of late, I guess it is on all of our minds.

6. These pictures MUST be released
so Americans KNOW what they are paying for and what their loved ones are being ordered to do. I am curious that none have been leaked so far.

7. Yes, I wondered about leaked photos too...
I have searched a great deal and still have not been able to turn over anything. There were some pictures posted to Atzlan, but those were fakes, made at least 4 months ago. There were the pictures of the S.E.A.L. team abusing prisoners...but those were not Abu Ghraib.

I hate to sound overconfident but if they had been leaked I would have found them by now, I think.

I believe they are under extremely tight security.

10. We do indeed deserve to see them
The previous drop in enlistment is nothing compared to what we will see if/when these photos are released. Who will want to serve when they know that they may be ordered to commit acts against humanity?

There will be a backlash from the release of these photos, but it will be from Americans. What is occurring in our name is goes against everything that we believe ourselves to be.

The fact that none have been leaked makes me nervous. I have a deep fear that some or all of these photos/videos have been destroyed. The longer they are in the hands of this rogue regime the more they will get itchy fingers to destroy the evidence of their crimes.

8. Wait till tonight
The case is a very important one and it is probably going to be debated at length, even though the govt. won't convince the judge. It is still 3:00 pm in NYC.
