DU, the first Democratic Message Board??? |
|
I just wanted to mention this to the users. Tomorrow we will hold a Democratic election whether or not to create a new DU 'Constitution'. I find this very intriguing. Can anyone name another message board where a similar large scale vote has taken place?

1. not sure that holding the vote with 1 day's notice is truly "democratic" |
|
also, the lack of opportunity for popular input on the rules, similarly does not seem very democratic.
adoption of a new constitution should be a deliberate process, with plenty of opportunity for discussion, and imho should require more than a simple majority.

2. Yes...maybe we should require two/thirds vote for such an important.... |
|
decision? This is about freedom of speech and the Patriot Act and the Bill of Rights and America itself...

3. maybe not a simple majority |

Skinner sez: We're just looking for a majority. But if it was a narrow majority, I think we would be setting ourselves up for serious problems, and we might reconsider. If we lose, hey, that's cool too. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=434070&mesg_id=434238
