Cindy Sheehan is anti-Israel?
I was out of the loop the past few days. Just wondering where this meme came from. Thanks.

1. She made a comment about the Israeli-Palestinian issue being
a major factor behind terrorism. Some are taking that to mean that she hates Jews. (This from a woman who follows one of the most famous Jews of all time.)

2. She wants Israel out of occupied Palestine, for starters
Cindy Sheehan is pro-humanity and pro common sense.

Aren't the Israelis leaving the settlements, anyway?

23. Nope.
Not really. This is what Chomsky has to say about it:

The Gaza Disengagement Plan

Any sane Israeli government would want to remove Israeli settlements from Gaza, where about 8000 settlers take a large part of the land and resources, and have to be protected by huge army contingents.

Far more rational, now that the occupation has turned Gaza into a hell-hole, is to get out and leave it as a prison in which the population can rot. The “Gaza disengagement plan” is, in fact, a US-Israeli West Bank expansion plan, designed to incorporate valuable land and resources of the West Bank into Israel, and leave Palestinians in a few unviable Bantustans which the US and Israel can call a “state”—rather as South Africa called the Bantustans “independent states.”

There is great agonizing now in Israel about the tragedy of the settlers who were handsomely subsidized to settle illegally in Gaza, where they have tortured and terrorized the population and stolen their land and resources, and now will be handsomely subsidized by the same generous fairy godmother (you and your friends) to settle somewhere else. People are wearing orange, etc. As the better Israeli journalists have eloquently described, it is a shame and disgrace. The same is true of the “trauma” of Jews evicting Jews. If Sharon wants to remove the settlers quietly, nothing is easier. Simply announce that the IDF will be withdrawn on date X, and a few weeks earlier the settlers will be gone.

It’s mostly cynical show to justify the US-Israel West Bank expansion programs.

They are sacrificing settlements that would have been difficult to hold anyway.

30. She did NOT specify "occupied Palestine." She said...
"Palestine." Period. No qualifications. Not one word about the Occupied Territories. Hence the widespread (and wholly logical) conclusion she is joining the Jihadists and their supporters in calling for the destruction of Israel and the extermination of all Israelis.

Hence too the ongoing debate on DU.

At the very least, she needs to clarify what she said. Surely she cannot be unaware of the controversy her words have set off. Given her continuing silence on the issue, it thus appears ever more certain that "destroy Israel" is indeed precisely what she means.

And nothing could be more divisive -- or ultimately self-defeating to the anti-war movement.

18. How about the Scott that worked for Canada's PM and the shrub
thought he was prettier than his Scott.

http://www.wonkette.com/politics/white-house/bush-likes-a-pretty-face-003079.php

Bush Likes a Pretty Face
The President is known as an affectionate man. Compassionate conservatism, his constant exhortation to "tell a shut-in you love them," whatever. But we had never figured him for a homo. (Though it would explain a lot.) The Globe and Mail reports that he made a pass at the Canadian prime minister's senior advisor, Scott Reid. During a lull in the otherwise thrilling Monterrey summit, Bush chatted up Reid:

"Well, you got a pretty face," he told the surprised Mr. Reid. He wasn't done. "You got a pretty face," he said again. "You're a good-looking guy. Better looking than my Scott anyway."
There are, of course, other ways to explain this rather remarkable thawing (to the point of hot, really) in U.S.-Canadian relations. One: He was trying to distract the Canadians, giving himself time to remember where Canada is. Two: Reid really is prettier than Scott McClellan. It's entirely possible.

Canada's Scott

14. Cindy
I think made a comment about the current government in Isreal, but nothing that was particularly anti-Isreal.

OTOH, the Crawford Peace House had a wall sized poster of a middle east w/o Isreal, and palestien only (on their web page when this all started).

When you put the two together, some people may have gotten a bad impression.

From the google cache of the Crawford Web site:
http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:IUmWjDVA1xQJ:www.crawfordpeacehouse.org/+crawford+peace+house&hl=en

Page down about halfway and this is what you see:

It's a protester holding up a sign to show four maps of what is now Israel and the Occupied Territories and it depicts how the Palestinians have had less and less land to live on (the area in green) over the last 60 years since the founding of Israel.

while acting like Israel is acting democratically with regards to people that have called themselves Palestinians. These people while living within the boarders of Israel are not citizens and thus don't have the right to vote.

The supporters are really Mexicans, who kept going after crossing the border. Word is there is work in Crawford, clearing brush.

Sadly, that wouldn't be the tallest tale told by these folks. (And still some Americans would believe it, I'm sure) Of course, the "Minutemen" will arrive a day late (due to a "Porto-Potty scheduling mess-up") to "secure the parameter."

I think their policies suck and have caused untold grief and enormous loss of treasure for this country.

They are driving the neo-con train and I wish people would stop with the 'anti-semitic' knee jerk reactions to criticisms of that government. We would all be a lot better off if we stopped pretending that our government should do whatever the fuck Israel wants to do

27. This is the rw smear machine at work
What she said:

"You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine and you'll stop the terrorism," Sheehan says.

This is the rw smear machine in progress, building their case on this quote; a reply to what would stop terrorism, made during an interview.
Failing to reach her in any other way, this is the new case - so obviously construed that it is almost painful to watch.
The desperation of the machine is becoming visible - it can't keep up with developments, and Bush is in deep trouble here.

BTW: if you ask the experts, you'll get the same answer.

32. Ah, so it was a REPLY in an INTERVIEW?
And she was asked what would stop terrorism?

The way I heard it, you'd think she jumped on a soapbox out of the blue and started shouting "ISRAEL OUT OF PALESTINE NOW!!! ZIONIST PIGS!!!"

I'm slowly coming to the following conclusion: if you see a bad thing written about a left-winger / liberal / pacifist / etc, you can count on a 98% likelihood that it's false.

40. Yeah, ain't that so?
This is the way they exaggregate 'negative' viewpoints made as comments by taking it out of the context and placing it on the soapbox. In fact, this is nothing new - tabloid journalism uses this technique all the time. Would hardly be any headlines unless they did ;-)
But not with a political slant, though - at least not in Europe.

35. Just stating a point of logic.
If she means that Israel should get out of the WB and Gaza, that's not being anti-Israel.

If she thinks that Israel should get out of, well, Israel, that is without a doubt being anti-Israel.

That said, I see no reason to believe that she holds the latter view, so it is unfair to describe her as anti-Israel.
