The Republicans think they are above the law.
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 10:19 PM by The Lone Liberal
The Republicans, I mean those in power and those that vote for them, all of them feel that they are not subject to any law. That opens the door on all sorts of things. If the law does not apply to them, then they could do murder, take down the political system or do anything that they desire. If that is the case, then maybe they did murder Paul Wellstone, if they can without regard violate a federal law then they could do murder. Maybe they are planning on suborning the next election by rigging the voting machines, if they can without regard violate a federal law then they could take down the democratic process. We should suspect them of every crime known to man.

This proclivity towards lawlessness makes clear why Ken Lay and his ilk can steal millions and still walk free today, it is why they think they can lie without punishment, it is why they think they can break a federal law without any worry. The Republicans are outlaws and renegades, they are traitors to a democratic form of government.

2. I'll just bet that they're
shitting pumpkins over this one, because nothing else (Enron, WMD claims) seemed to get any real sustained attention and I think this will.

6. TR was probably the last Repub president...
that truly took his job earnestly, and was pretty well above reproach.

He made mistakes, lot's of them, but he accepted responsibility for them as well.

FDR had his moments when he thought he was above the law.

Eisenhower, took responsibility seriously.

Johnson used his office to shake things his way.

Nixon was a paranoid individual, who could have actually used his brains for good if he wasn't seeing enemies behind every porta-potty.

Reagan, bush I, and the present moron have no respect for the law at all. If Reagan didn't know about Iran/Contra, he was incompetent; if he did, he committed treason. bush I was CIA director, wonder what the hell he knows? The current spastic sphincter in the WH, has no comprehension of law, morality or dignity.

7. Getting away with breaking the law is a form of violence
We have a resident who has repeatedly broken the law and gotten away with it, and now his kids are on the high road to a similar way of living. The privileged classes have proved, time and time again, that they are willing to cover up for each other's high crimes and misdemeanours. When the highest justices in the land are willing to follow this pattern then there is no longer any reason for anyone to respect the law or to care about living within the law.
"It is organized violence at the top that causes random violence at the bottom."

9. Well
Enron gave to both parties and Hillary had Vince Foster wacked.

What scares me is career politicians on all sides. It is no longer of the people, by the people, for the people when these career toads are in it for the pensions and their kids grow up in DC. How do they feel our pain living in DC for 20 to 30 years? Power always corrupts, and based on that, your observations are fair.

13. It's not career politicians, IMHO. It's the excess of money involved
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 10:52 PM by w4rma
in politics. I don't care so much if they *feel* my pain as I care about if they will give regular folks access like they have to give big money folks. Big money protects them from voter reprocussions. If they screw over lots of folks who figure out who's screwing them over, the more corrupt of them will simply start up a big money PR campaign.

16. Good point
I agree with you in general, and I think the longer they are in DC the more likely they are to be bought and paid for, human nature regardless of party affiliation. Most of them are millionaires to begin with. They all run with big money.

I still feel to represent the people, it helps to be recently from them.

19. "Hillary had Vince Foster whacked"?...
I would be exceptionally careful about making allegations like that.

What you are implying is that she was complicit in murder; without justifiable evidence, that statement holds no water.

As for Enron...they gave a lot more to the GOP; and that $ that went to Dem's, went to dem's in name only.

Money buys power, it is not right, but it is a fact.

20. Wrong on both...
To discuss the slightly less absurd statement: Enron gave money to both parties but gave FAR MORE to the Republicans.

Bush Jr really wanted to throw out the first ball at Enron Field here in Houston but his handlers didn't let him. His friendship with Kenny Boy already looked a little too close. (Enron Field is now Minute Maid Field.) Ken Lay was seen recently lunching at River Oaks Country Club, table hopping to talk with all his friends. But Tommy Chong is going down!

18. Haven't you heard the Golden Rule?
He who has the gold, makes the rules. And to hell with the rest of us.

I hope this leads to Bush's impeachment. I wonder what he is going to blame. Incompetence or Dishonesty?
