The twisted pretzel logic of "miracles" and plane crashes...(rant alert) |
|
I don't know why, but it has really been bothering me that the plane that skidded off the runway in Canada (thankfully leaving everyone alive) was widely hailed (especially on cable news)as a miracle. But what does that say about the tragic loss of life when the plane went down in Greece recently??? Doesn't anyone think before they speak anymore? I am sick to death of the talk of faith that encroaches on all areas of our life as of late. My faith is a personal matter, and I could die a happy woman if no network ever ran one of those "faith in the workplace/school yard/dorm room etc." pieces ever again. When a plane crashes the outcome can be a wonderful thing, a mixed outcome, or a horrible tragedy...It is not ever a miracle.

1. That sort of stuff offends me... |

The "God saved me!" crap makes me sick to my stomach... I always want to yell, "And what--he hated those other people who just died?"
The fact that some people survive and some people die isn't the hand of God...it's happenstance. Sheer, blind luck. To think anyone else demeans the whole notion of God. How could he save a 40 y.o. stockbroker as a plane skids off a runway (for example) yet let two young boys, 4 and 6, die in an apartment fire today here in Washington State?
I sometimes wonder if it's just me who feels this way about this sort of stuff.

3. I was beginning to wonder if it was just me... |

It's almost as if people are afraid to call bullshit on this kind of thing for fear of being branded anti-religion. I just want to scream..."You people are destroying religion". The fundies claim God directly controls all things, yet I never see anyone who likes to tout miracles going on TV and saying "God really let some people down today" when people are starving to death, dying in horrific accidents, or suffering with terminal illness. These people demean the sacred by mass marketing it with trite slogans (What would Jesus do) and using it to tittilate the masses during slow news days.
Whew, I feel better now.

8. Frankly, I'm anti-revealed religion |

I think the mind of God is too large for the mortal mind to encompass and all we can hope to have is the tiniest capsules spread across the billions of people who have lived here and tried to explain the mind of God.
The truth of it all isn't in one book, or even spread throughout all the books. It's in the hearts and minds of everyday people, the wonders of the natural universe, and in the hope of a new day.
Explaining God is like trying to hug a fog bank.

9. I agree completely.... |

By insisting that the Christian bible is the is the true and infallable word of God, by packaging it to be the latest fad and by being so arrogant to think that they have the absolute truth, they are taking away from Christianity and damaging it's place in the world of faith. I just want them to stop (pretty please???)

Our earth, space, far away galaxies, etc. cannot be explained by any human being. Perhaps, there is a reason for this.
God is not just an entity. He is all.

2. Jon Stewart capsulated it nicely after the Air France incident... |
|
"...the only thing that was a miracle in that situation was the lightning that hit the plane... THAT was the act of god... if aything, god was trying to KILL these people... his plan was foiled by the crews satanic competance!"
