the more people hear it on the news without dispute, the more everyday citizens will be saying it out loud, until it becomes the norm - people don't like lying Presidents...
On edit: This is the reason most people gave for Nixon, (mainly because they didn't "get" the real reasons of treason and abuse of power, but lying they understand)
