Rush a racist - new comments from his ESPN gig
Apparantly Rush disparaged Donovan McNabb Sunday on ESPN, implying that the media has overrated him because he is black.

4. That first article had a great line in it
To Rush:

YOU
ARE
THE
MEDIA!!!!!

I hate how these people like Rush and Hannity always bitch and whine about "the media" and "hollywood elites". Hey, you are the one with the nationally syndicated radio and television shows, not me.

By the way, I know many conservatives who hate the idea of black quarterbacks. A lot of it, I think, has to do with the fact that they can completely change a teams offense. Look at McNabb, and Michael Vick. It has become very common to expect quarterbacks to rush now, and these two are very good at this. Its a dramatic change from the old style of standing still in the pocket for five seconds then throwing.
Maybe the old, fat white guys (who probably can't even run 40 yards) feel threatened.

Terry Bradshaw - a guy so white he married an Ice Skating queen - used to slip out of the hole and run for first downs all the time. Plus the occasional TD, IIRC.

5. This is EXACTLY why I've banned ESPN!
What a sick piece of shit that lardass is. And I'm sure this is only the beginning.

And how in the hell can Tom Jackson or Michael Irvin or any other minority sit on the same stage with that garbage? It's beyond me, I swear.

Perhaps ESPN's minority viewership (if they have any) will rise up against them and call for a boycott of advertisers - something, anything - to bring this matter the attention it deserves. Or perhaps the NFL's black players might want to boycott them by not granting interviews..something to get the message across to ESPN that this man and his bigotry will not be tolerated.

Afterall it was Michael Savage's incredibly biggoted big mouth that got him fired from MSNBC.

6. Yes, I saw it...
I was watching espn when Rush made the outrageously racist comments cited above. I couldn't believe someone from the regular panel didn't take that racist fucker's head off, especially after Rush repeated his comments several times. Perhaps one of the regular espn commentators should have pointed out that the only reason Rush got *his* job on espn of all places is because he's a vastly overblown fascist, racist pig who the bigwigs at espn thought would draw in the knuckle-dragger segment of the football audience. Frankly, I think espn included Rushbum because they are terrified that football is losing the coveted demographic of the white male audience to NASCAR.

ESPN should be ASHAMED! Perhaps they could ask Rush to publicly explain why so few blacks are to be found in top coaching and front office jobs in the NFL. Or perhaps Rushbutt could explain why Marvin Lewis was for too long passed over for a head coaching job in favor of lesser qualified white candidates, until he got his well-deserved shot in Cincinnati.

Rush is a friggin' ignorant, squealing PIG.

49. Sometimes, people really are shocked into silence
I really can't imagine the shock that went through their minds to hear that. My family isn't allowed to watch this show, the one rule mommy made for football season! So I don't know exactly who these announcers are.

17 year old son says, Did they report he's 70% of the offense? Did they report Steve McNair didn't get to go to the pro-bowl? Who knows Warren Moon has most completed passes in a season or is second in NFL history for passing yards per game?

Sure, there's no racism in the NFL.

How long before Rush gets the big boot???

10. My Comments to ESPN
"Limbaugh's comments about McNabb being overrated by the media because of his race (but not by him) confirm the bigotry that we feared he'd bring to your network. The lack of comment by the other panelists over his racist statiemtns indicate an incredible lack of sensitivity.

Do the honorable thing and fire him NOW!"

17. My comments....
When you hired Rush Limbaugh, you should have known that he was a racist. Now he's proven it on your airwaves.

Will you do anything about it?

It's nice to see that Tom Jackson stood up for Donovan McNabb. I'm guessing ESPN as a whole might not be as honorable. I'm sure you don't to do anything to hurt your ratings.

Saying a player is overrated is a valid criticism. Saying a player is overrated because of his skin color is overtly racist and factually incorrect.

McNabb has taken his team to the last 2 NFC Championship games....

I won't watch NFL Countdown as long as Limbaugh is in your employ. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way....

8. Lonsberry(local tokel) fired...finally
Rochester, NY. Couldn't get his rabies shots in time. He kept posting belligerent unapolgetic slurs on his website, decrying diversity and otherwise trying to prove his worth to Clear Channel whose ownership of the local station is the only reason he wasn't given his bus ticket long ago.

Expect him to turn up in a place where his bigoted mouth truly reflects the values of the loval community.

Only a big media with an agenda deliberatively insensitive to both the needs of the SPONSORS and the local community. Here is another shining example of why the current consolidation and unfettered mad dog slant supported by the Powell FCC stinks to Hades.

Howard Cosell slipped once, and not meanly, and fell because he was on network sportsacasting with only his personal greatness to back him up. Any slimeball on Fox or Bile Radio gets better gas protection than that.

By his logic, I could say that Brett Favre has been over-hyped because there's an interest in seeing good ole boys from the deep south do well.

...Jackson then interjected that "somebody went to those championship games, somebody went to those Pro Bowls, somebody made those plays that I saw, running down the field, doing it with his legs, doing it with his arm. He has been a very effective quarterback for this football team over the last 2 or 3 years."

and with an angry glint in his eye, to boot. Maybe those championships were figments of his coach's imagination.

Edited on Tue Sep-30-03 10:23 AM by rocknation
From http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/football/6894891.htm
(Limbaugh said)..."I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. I think the media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well. They're interested in black coaches and black quarterbacks doing well; I think there is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of his team that he really didn't deserve. The defense carried this team..."
So he not only implies that McNabb's abilities have been overhyped, but that the NFL won't "allow" the Eagles coach to bench him out of fear of looking racist!

On edit: From http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/football/6894896.htm
Eagles coach Andy Reid said last night that he did not want to respond to Limbaugh's comments, but "I trust Donovan's talents and his contributions to Philadelphia."

Donavon McNabb is one of the toughest quarterbacks to ever take the field. Rush's comments are both ill-informed and racist. All of you, football fans or not, should mob ESPN and ABC (they own ESPN) with negative emails about this.

27. "How long have you been a black quarterback?"
Edited on Tue Sep-30-03 10:03 AM by rocknation
From http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/football/6893265.htm

...In 1985, Randall Cunningham was drafted by the Eagles. At his first news conference in Philadelphia, an older white reporter asked him, "What makes you think you'll ever be able to read NFL defenses?"

In January 1988, it was considered major news that an African American quarterback named Doug Williams was starting in the Super Bowl for the Washington Redskins. During the pregame week of hype, Williams was famously asked, "How long have you been a black quarterback?"...

Now THOSE were the good old days when minority pro athletes were satisfied with doing the "athletic" jobs--running with or for the ball, blocking, swinging for the fences, making diving catches. But then they started going after the jobs that require brains and planning and memorizing and commanding the respect of teammates, team leaders and the fans alike--pitching, catching, quarterbacking, and then--gasp--COACHING AND MANAGING!!! Is NOTHING sacred? Not even tennis and golf have been immune!

28. I just sent a email....
my comment-
I am opposed to your continued use of Limbaugh as a member of your network's football show. He is not an analyst, sportswriter, or former player. He is a political commentator, and, as such, has no place on a sports show. His comments about McNabb were totally out of line, reminding one of Jimmy the Greek. The lack of response from the rest of the panel was unforgivable. Please re-think your use of him and many of us will watch your pre-game show again. Thank you for reading this, and I look forward to your reply.

29. Folks don't get that Rush can't stand successful African Americans.
Here is a little remembered Rush idea.

Back after the selection but before the transition... Rush was bemoaning that Powell should NOT be the pick for Secretary of State. He said on his show repeatedly - even when his rushbot callers disagreed with him - that Powell should stick to stuff he knows - that he has spent time since leaving the military with a foundation and that he therefor should stick to that kind of work... like head of HHS. He said this again and again. See in Rush's own rationale, Cheney shouldn't be VP because in the intervening years he ran an energy company - so he should be Sec of Energy. But of course he only applies his logic to... African Americans.

Funniest thing is then when he turns around and ponders why African Americans don't realize that Republicans are really the better party for African American interests. :eyes:

His background was in the military--why didn't he get Rumsfeld's job? Because the GOP "couldn't stand" the idea of a black man running the world's most powerful military?

37. But, he wasn't suggesting defense
he was suggesting the agency HE (Rush) doesn't think should exist.

As to the McNabb story, Rush just can't believe that an African American ever rises to prominence on their own merits. Heck the only times he gives 'credit' is if he can use it (eg Powell before the UN and what he said) to push his line of the day.

When the Washington Redskin's Alvin Garrett made an incredible run, Cosell said, "look at that little monkey run!"

Cosell said that he did not mean it in a racist manner and he was just comparing Garrett's athleticism to that of a monkey. Cosell was attacted by some civil rights leader while others rushed to his defense and stated that they did not believe he meant in a racist manner.

Unlike Limbaugh, Cosell had a long history of working FOR civil rights.

That, right there, is reason for termination from any company in this country.
I find this sort of statement to be in very poor taste, and if I was present, I would have called him on it.
