Important: INFO FOR PROTESTERS GOING TO CRAWFORD AND IN SUPPORT.
Edited on Tue Aug-16-05 09:36 PM by DistressedAmerican
I got a call asking me to pass some information along to DU.

A large number of people are expected to begin flowing back into Crawford for the weekend. Given recent events, tensions are high. It is hot and many people are very tired and some frustrated. Under these circumstances a small incident could grow out of hand quickly.

The organizers associated with the Peace House URGE US ALL to not to engage anti-Sheehan protesters in any way. Do not debate them. Do not respond to them.
One word. IGNORE.

There are plenty of your fellow supporters there to keep you entertained. Do not be tempted to settle the issue with a counter protester here and now.

Our discussion is with the president not those that seek to derail the message.

The same rules should be applied to all demonstrations of solidarity around the country. We are all in this one together. There will be many hitting the streets tomorrow night. In addition, Camp Casey's are springing up all over the country!

So let's keep our collective heads out there (I sound like that Sgt. on C.H.I.P.s, SORRY).

For those of you in Crawford, there are numerous staff at the Peace House that are well trained in non-violent passive resistance techniques that will be on site to provide people instructions. Please pay close attention to the instructions and follow them.

If there is any sort of incident, report it immediately to Peace house staff. The staff there has an excellent working relationship with local law enforcement. This relationship goes back for years and should continue for years.

My last report was that there throughout the week there have been several hundred people there. Last weekend the numbers were in the thousands.

This weekend, we expect as many or more to arrive in support of this accountability moment for George Bush.

I would like to personally add, keep the video rolling if you have cameras, bring them down! I will be getting back to you tomorrow with a more detailed post on passive resistance techniques so keep an eye out.

It it a new day folks!

Look to the masters, Gandhi, MLK and many others. They really knew how to make a government listen to the will of the people!

DA

Please keep this kicked throughout the week. Everyone should get a look...

passive resistance
Related: Political Science

a method of nonviolent protest against laws or policies in order to force a change or secure concessions; it is also known as nonviolent resistance and is the main tactic of civil disobedience . Passive resistance typically involves such activities as mass demonstrations, refusal to obey or carry out a law or to pay taxes, the occupation of buildings or the blockade of roads, labor strikes, economic boycotts, and similar activities...
Among its most articulate advocates have been Gandhi , who maintained that action needs to be accompanied by love and a willingness to search for the truth, and Martin Luther King , Jr., who called for “tough-mindedness and tenderheartedness.” Two of the most massive examples of passive resistance were the Solidarity movement in Poland (1980-81) and the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia (1989).

Opponents of passive resistance as a means of forcing a change in policy have criticized it for potentially fostering a general disrespect for law that could result in anarchy.

14. I do hereby forswear my natural inclination to piss freepers off.
If I do anything at all I will hold up the cross on my necklace, smile in a nice way and say, "blessed are the peacemakers, peace to you" - and that's it. Nothing more, I promise.

I'm wanting to head there on or about Thursday through Tuesday and am looking for someone to split accommodations and/or trip expense with.

PM ME if you know of someone looking for the same.

...I think your words are incredibly important and a good reminder to everyone.

I assume that people in the Crawford Peace House will be reminding everyone of this critical message as well.

It only takes ONE incident to completely derail and detract from this beautiful, successful movement that is growing around Cindy. One small fight or an incident blown out of proportion could cloud the message and make Cindy's side look bad. We need to be on our best behavior. No Bush supporter is worth jeopardizing the amazing energy that is growing at Camp Casey.

The press is always looking for conflict. They'll jump on any fights or conflict--and this derails the message for a few days.

I wouldn't be surprised if BushCo plants troublemakers to incite Cindy supporters and make the anti-war movement look bad.

We must focus like a laser beam--just like you said DistressedAmerican--and not engage freepers. There is too much at stake!

Again--thanks for one of the most important messages that I have ever seen at DU! :)

in addition to digital video cameras, don't forget to bring laptops to dump the video to so you can shoot more video.

Some DUers who cannot attend MIGHT have available webstorage for uploading photos.

In fact, I think I'll post a separate thread to organize those people.

34. Non-payment of taxes
Cindy had said that she did not intend to pay taxes.

I advised her that she should discuss this with a lawyer and a financial consultant so that she pays the sum to an escrow account so that she does not bring more trouble on herself.

She has replied that she will do so.

Any others on ideas on this in the context of American taxes should weigh in on this subject.

Remember Gandhi's movement really took ground when he by-passed the Salt Tax but he did not pay that by starting to symbolically make salt from sea water!!

36. Leave them alone is a good point. But, a sad truth about our America.
The mission is to hear the president.

Madly, some would strive to derail this mission by making a peaceful assembly turn into something unpeaceful.

Sadly, we cannot seem to hear each other. So sad.
