New political strip on the run down crosses at Crawford

I thought I'd touch on the complete hypocrisy of the situation by the driver (Or at least, I hope it reads that way).

Just as before, anyone that wants to share this is free to.

10. Priceless...
My husband's Aunt asked me why I removed the support the troops ribbons off the car she sold me.

I couldn't get the God Bless America bumber sticker off... I'm going to find my Air America Radio bumber sticker - put it exactly next to the other one... then when there is no doubt what kind of person supports the troops... I'll put them back on.

Now with your comic I have a way to explain to her why I don't want to be lumped in with THAT catagory of troop supporter.

Thanks!

Wow. The parents of those whose sons are on these crosses would probably be horrified. It's such a slap in the face.

14. I sent out an email with your picture
Subject: Who's really supporting?

No offence to people who put “support our troops” stickers on their cars (because it is a good thing). Unfortunately, some people think that all they have to do is put a sticker on and they are done.

I haven’t spent much time on the Cindy Sheehan thing (although I have online) because it seems to be getting a fairly healthy amount of attention. However, today I saw some reports mention the crosses while others ignored it. But NO ONE pointed out how hypocritical it was for the crosses (honoring those who have died in the Iraq war) being destroyed by the people who supported the war so much in the first place. Those same people called those who were against the war unpatriotic. Maybe now people can understand how people can support the troops and not support the war while others can support the war but not the troops.

This is one bad apple and doesn’t mean the whole tree is bad. However, I know one thing. If the tree was better taken care of, the chances an apple would go bad would be less likely. Bush has not yet condemned the event and I don’t think he will.

There's no sarcasm, exaggeration, innuendo or metaphor. It's just a drawing of exactly what happened. It could be a sketch of a photo of the occurance.

I had a concept which I made a graphic of, but it would be so much better as a cartoon. Would you like to do it? The captions need to be better, too. It needs to show the spikes from the cross puncturing the tire, which mine doesn't show clearly enough.

Here's the image:

107. I don't think your moon is backwards.

Doesn't the moon go through two crescent stages (Waxing and Waning)?

Unless of course it's backwards for the actual moon phase on the day this occurred. That COULD destroy the entire credibility of your statement. LOL j/k

Of course, you never know. With Faux News, should your cartoon make national headlines, they'd SURELY focus on that and discredit you over it.

It's a great strip. There's so much sentiment there. This is exactly what's being done to our troops, they're being run over and left behind. Both the living and the dead and their families. And yet the bush administration "stays their course" and plows through, without bothering to look back. There was no planning before the action and there is no remorse. The false patriotism is so obvious.

Hopefully like Larry Northern will be held accountable for his crime, so will the administration that lied to get us into this war.

Bravo gatorboy!

75. Great political cartoons ...
... tell a lot with a little. This is a great political cartoon.

Most disturbing is that this is not an event made up by the cartoonist to illustrate a point. It actually happened.

This toon says it all, without saying a word.

:patriot:

edit: I just now sent the link to this to BuzzFlash.

Dear Buzz,

This was drawn by Democratic Underground's gatorboy. It is startling in how it totally strips away the hypocritical veneer of those who claim to "support the troops."

83. Running Down The Crosses!
The only thing missing in the cartoon of the driver running down the crosses of the brave soldiers is his KKK hood. His act was cowardly, shameful, and full of disrespect. This kind of reminds me of the entire "Shrub" administration.

I saw in your profile that you're from Arkansas. You should send this to The Morning News (NW Arkansas). They'd probably publish this, unlike the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

GREAT AND POIGNANT STRIP. It's a true, albeit sad, commentary on the mentality of so many people in this country who march blindly behind this ghastly (p)Resident.

105. I'm not starting my opening sentence in the SUBJECT line!
Definitely one of my top pet peeves, is the practice of putting one's entire reply or starting their reply in the subject header. Grrrr.

Anyhoo... Just a long time reader first time poster here.

This cartoon really DOES say it all, especially in regard to the phony Support Our Troops ribbon bearers, and in general the phony troop "supporting" of the neo-con chickenhawk right wingers.

As others have probably noticed, the Support Our Troops sentiment and the bulk of ribbon car magnets sprang up like mushrooms during the time that the massive PRE Anti Iraq war rallies were happening around the world and here in the United States. And it was generally being spouted by people who were on the side of launching a war with Iraq, and supporting the Bush Administration at every turn.

As someone (like many Americans) who really DOES support the troops, and doesn't believe sending them into harms way, risking life, limb, and sanity, for unnecessary, unprovoked, and illegal preemptive wars, I found these magnet bearers to REALLY be saying "Support George Bush, Support Going to War with Iraq, and Support the radical neo-con agenda".

Now during the pre Iraq Anti-war rallies, I often made a statement by going to them dressed in patriotic, American flag bearing garb. I'd bring small American flags to pass around. Unfortunately, I did get looks by a number of people at the rallies with a look saying "Who's this guy? Why's he wearing a T-Shirt with a huge American flag and Eagle on the front? Is he a neo-con here to disrupt the rally?"

Of course, most (I hope) soon realized that I was, in fact, part of the Anti-War movement. I was intentionally making a statement, that YES, THIS is patriotic. THIS is what America is, and is supposed to be; a force for peace and justice around the world. Not the aggression and injustice of the neo-cons. We are STRONGLY against going to war with Iraq, AND we are patriotic Americans.

Likewise, during the run up to the 2004 elections, I put the "Support Our Troops" ribbons on my car, along WITH my Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers. Again, making the statement that "Hey, a 'Support Our Troops' ribbon DOESN'T mean vote for George Bush. It means if you REALLY want to support our troops, you'll chose Kerry over Bush."

So, I'd just like to say, we need to take back American patriotism away from the right wing and the neo-cons. We *DO* love our country, and want it to be a force and source for GOOD in the world, with a world view of working in, and toward, peace and harmony with the global community.

We really ought to do more not only take back our country, but also take back the symbols of our country.

P.S. Vote now on CNN's main page, lower right hand side. "Do you agree with the decision of the neighbor who agreed to allow Cindy Sheehan to move her anti-war protest closer to President Bush’s ranch?"

Thanks gator, I'm pleased to be here.

I've been reading DU more often recently. It took me a while after the Nov 2004 impossibility to get back to having ANY hope that America and humanity isn't doomed. Hehe.

But, now that it seems that the Bush administration is starting to implode, and the average American seems to be waking up from their 9/11 induced stupor, I'm starting to become hopeful again.

P.S. In case nobody has told you, you do GREAT work. :-)

123. Hehe

Good question. I think because it seems to interfere with a smooth flow to reading the posts. Perhaps that's just me.

Often I mearly skim the subject line, if I read it at all. So when the first sentence of a post starts in the subject line it can throw me off. Plus... it just seems like bad forum form to me.

P.S. THANKS for the welcome.

GREAT cartoon. Thanks for sharing! I printed it out to include on my poster for our Candlelight Vigil for Cindy tonight.

I'm in Chapel Hill NC. We filled our event with 175 people signed up.
There are 17 vigils scheduled in North Carolina--with over 1550 people scheduled to attend. That is a real turnout in a red, military state!

I've had two pnone interviews with media--print and TV--so we hope the weather cooperates and media turns up!
