Dems Need To Start Referring To Chimpy as "THIS UNPOPULAR PRESIDENT" |
|
Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 12:22 PM by Beetwasher
As well as "Coward" as Walt pointed out. But if the Dems themselves are too cowardly to call him a coward, at least everyone get on the same page and start referring to him as "This VERY unpopular President". He should no longer be President Bush or Mr. Bush, but "This very unpopular President" or "This historically unpopular President". Don't ever even use his name anymore, just refer to him as I suggested.
Dem politicians need to get their act together and start saying shit like this ad nauseum. Why is it they can never pull this stuff off and get everyone together on something like this?
The Dem party really needs to start getting everyone on the same page. If everyone started referring to him as "This very unpopular President and his very unpopular war and policies" and they did it on every show they appeared on, it would definitely have an effect. The Repubs learned this a long time ago, and it is effective. Hell, the Repubs do it w/ LIES. This is the truth, and it would therefore be even MORE effective.

1. I've never been able to |

even bring myself to refer to him as the president... a title he did not earn or win fairly & does not deserve.

2. That's exactly what I was going to say. |
|
I usually refer to him as Little Boots or "the occupier of the Oval Office." Occupying seems to be his one forte.

I have to watch my language with & can't refer to him as the asshole, the dumbass, etc., then I usually just call him "junior" ;)

Why on Earth don't they answer every question about Iraq with DSM?
Why?
When Dem's don't do these things it makes me think that they are in cahoots.

10. and you can support that with an old quote from Dick Cheney |
|
I couldn't find it on the internets, but I've seen it enough and I really suck at googling.
Dick Cheney, circa 1998 (in response to a temporary spike in gas prices) "High gas prices are the sign of a failed presidency."

14. Am in agreement with you, Beetwasher |

What's important here is framing the rhetoric BEFORE the Repubs do it. One of the greatest tactics used by the GOP over the last many years has been to frame the debate, start the catch word, and then repeat it over and over again until it becomes mainstream.
I've written to the DNC a few times about framing the debate, starting the rhetoric. Yet, it would seem that they pretty much, with the exception of some great individuals such as Conyers for example, are following the GOP lead in the mainstream framing of daily politics.

16. I Just Don't Get It, It's So Frustrating |
|
Why why why why WHY don't they do this? Why can't the Dems get everyone on the same page and push this frame??? Is anyone trying? Is it just that Dems are too independent? I just don't get it. It's smart politics and as much as I hate the GOP, they know how to do this and it IS effective.
If the Dems started now, they could have A WHOLE YEAR of everyone referring to Chimpy AND the Repubs who support him as unpopular failures.

18. Agree with you. The current Dem party SUCKS at message management. |
|
Talking points WORK, and there isn't even any moral issue associated with using them if they are clearly true, easy to back up with data, and not a distortion.

20. Perhaps, we as the body of Dems, need to start flooding the DNC |
|
with the demand to stop the following and to start leading, begin framing the debate and hammering it home. I think Howard Dean understands this, but ever since his vilification for "screaming" during the 2004 race, the GOP took a great stride in setting up Dean as an impotent leader.
I believe it will take at least 60-75% of the Dems to all be on the same page to reach the tipping point to start a progression of the return of democracy to our nation; And that includes us, but must be seen and heard by the eyes and ears of our nation and the world through the MSM. Tall order, yet am placing some hope this is beginning as Cindy's message is bringing together such a large number of people, if not in person, at least through spirit and agreement, that we're not accepting the GOP dish du jour anymore.

We at DU can call him the pretzeldent, chimpy, busholini, etc. to our hearts content. The OP is referring to elected officials and other dems in the public eye. Obviously Senators and Reps can't go around referring to "His Chimperial Highness."
It's all about framing, and Beetwasher makes an excellent point. The repugs have us totally beat at these things - for example, when they decided to push the "mushroom cloud" imagery, they ALL got on board, flooded the media, and pushed it hard.
Is it so hard for prominent Dems to do the same? Bush's approval has been well below 50% for some time now!

17. Another framing technique the Dems need to use... |
|
...is calling the war in Iraq a "Republican war."
With every dead soldier and Marine, with every car bomb that takes out dozens of innocent Iraqis, the Democrats have got to hang each failure in Mesopotamia not only Bush but the GOP as well.

19. Of course they should |
|
But they won't. It's out of the question that anyone in the Dem leadership would call him a coward. That's WAY too radical for this crowd. And they won't even call him unpopular, even with all the poll results to back it up. They are bought off or scared, and I am sick of it.

21. The Dems are in perfect position to lead a populist backlash against Bush |
|
However, I'm reminded of Maximus's angry comment about the Senate's unwillingness to stand up against Commodus in "Gladiator": "They oppose him, yet they do nothing!"
You have Mrs. Sheehan besieging the Chimp outside of his pig farm and rallying the public to her cause, a Republican war in Iraq predicated on lies and going south like the whole world said it would, treasonous bastards in the White House, plus fuel costs being jacked up by Bush's oil buddies -- and yet the Democratic leadership is not attacking.
It's past time for the DLC to strike back. Do it now, or get the hell out of my party.
