Question: What is/was Mrs. Wilson's exact job title?
The Hug-a-shrubbers that I talk to keep insisting that she is a CIA analyist and not a CIA operative. They say this is not an Agent involved in covert operations and that this whole thing is blown out of proportion and not subject to the penalties discussed.

All of the news sites I've lurked refutes their claim except Newsmax, Drudge and whoever submits Novacks op/eds you know, all the sites with the "balanced news".

1. This is the $64,000 question
If she's an analyst who sits at a desk all day, this story will go away. Some low-level staffer will get fired and that will be the end of it.

If she is an operative who works in the field, this is a major story.

One would think this question would be easily answered.

3. I thought Wilson admitted on Pukechanan and Press
that his wife indeed was an operative. Then the CIA came out with a message yesterday saying that indeed national security had been harmed from her being outed. What would the big deal be in outing her if she were just an analyst? I think this story would have gone away the day after Novak wrote the column if she were just an analyst.

2. White House says she is a CIA operative
Josh Marshall quotes from a letter sent yesterday from White House counsel to White House staff. According to an excerpt posted on his site, the letter referred to her as a CIA operative.

From http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com

The Gonzales letter, released early Tuesday ...

The following notice was sent to all White House employees:
PLEASE READ: Important Message From Counsel's Office

We were informed last evening by the Department of Justice that it has opened an investigation into possible unauthorized disclosures concerning the identity of an undercover CIA employee. (end excerpt)

To me, it seems like Mr. Novak is being directly contradicted by the White House counsel.

4. According to Ray McGovern......via Will Pitt.....
she was an operative.

"The third layer is where the darkness truly lurks, and where the deadly importance of this situation lies. Valerie Plame was not simply an analyst or a data cruncher. She was an operative running a network dedicated to tracking any person or nation that might try to give weapons of mass destruction to terrorists. That sentence deserves to be written twice. She was an operative running a network dedicated to tracking any person or nation that might try to give weapons of mass destruction to terrorists."

9. the author of "Bush's Brain"
(whose name escapes me) echoed the same last night from his sources, in an interview with the BBC. He also said that her work was in Europe

(which leads me to speculate that this is linked to Wilson's work as political advisor to George Joulwan during NATO's operations in Bosnia.)

5. She is not an analyst--she is (was) a covert operative
Tell your Repug co-workers that they don't know shit about shit!

CIA analysts don't live in the shadows--many of them attend briefings, academic conferences, and publish under their own names. Ask them where they work, they will tell you. This story wouldn't BE a story if Ms. Plame were an analyst. The fact is, she worked in covert ops and revealing her name to the world is a crime.

6. Novak's original article stated she was an OPERATIVE
and her name isn't Mrs. Wilson. She goes by her maiden name, forget what it is, but it begins with a P.
