Lincoln, Nebraska Vigil
Let me start by saying Oh My God that was AWESOME! It was my first non-campaign political rally/vigil. It certainly won't be my last. We were on the corner of 33rd and O St. (O is the main drag through town).

I could not believe the number of people who honked/waved/made peace signs! Absolutely fabulous! After all, this is one of the reddest states we've got. Of course there were some lovely Bushites. One idiot in a pickup actually drove by, flipped us off...and then went home for "ammo." Thankfully not a loaded gun. Rather, he taped his Bush/Cheney sign to his car door, and hung a life-sized cardboard Bush cutout out his passenger window. What. A. Moron.

So yeah, pictures!

My sign:

Towards the start of the line, which goes up to the street light (and gets thicker and deeper):

Closer to the corner:

My favorite sign was: "Semper Fi?? Semper LIE!!" ;)

4. You're welcome!
Sorry for the lack of actual candlelight. It was windy...and my digicam sucks in the dark. :(

I love Lincoln. I was crowned an Honorary Cornhusker there, it involved cheap beer being poured on my head next to the football stadium, and that's all I'm gonna say about that ;)

8. I took my kids to one here in the Bronx, NYC, but this state is so blue
that everyone would expect a good turn out. But seeing all those great people in Nebraska just makes my eyes tear up with joy and hope. Thank you so much for the photos and your efforts!

11. Awww!
actually, I was very proud of my red state tonight. There really were only a small handfull of jackasses vs. TONS of supporters. To be fair, Lincoln is about as liberal as one gets in Nebraska. But yes, it was very encouraging. :)

9. Great pictures! Thanks!
I didn't bring my camera, but I'm sure there will be plenty of pictures of our vigil. Every TV news group was there, too. :D

16. I was impressed by
the Channel 8 coverage. The reporter/cameraman was there for quite a while and seemed to agree with us. ;) Channel 11 was there too, for about 5 minutes. :(

21. Good job!
It is disappointing that Channel 11 did not stay longer, but remember ANY press is good press. It helps to break through the distorted impression the media gives that US citizens stand behind the asshat.

17. he actually had a cardboard cut-out on hand?
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 08:23 AM by Qanisqineq
Is it part of his shrine to Bush? Does he worship it every day? Or does he... nevermind. What kind of nutcase has a cardboard cut-out of the president?

Edit: Was too intrigued by the Bush cut-out and forgot to say thanks for posting the pics!

19. Scary isn't it??
I'm not sure what kind of ::cough::FREAK::cough:: has a cardboard cutout of * at his disposal. We all laughed at him. Not the reaction he was going for, I don't think. ;)

18. GO HUSKERS!!!!!!
Wish I could have been there - but it is a bit of a trek from Daytona Beach.

My St. Paul resident sister and I are barely on speaking terms because of this unjust war - and she currently has a son serving in Iraq.

(ps - GO HUSKER FOOTBALL!!!!!!! - 16 days)

20. OMG, Did I just get
positive Husker vibes from a Floridian?? :wow:

I also have family members that I'm barely speaking to. As you can imagine, my Nebraskan family is rather conservative, to put it nicely. x(
