Why is this news?
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/17/marine.funeral.ap/index.html

Doesn't something like this happen every time a US soldier is killed? Why is this all of a sudden news to CNN? This link can be found as one of the latest headlines on their site.

Are they so threatened by the right that they put up this piece to satisfy the pro-Bushies? Why not just report on the news stories that are worth being reported on? Either that, or write an article like this for every soldier killed.

Am I wrong, or do others also have a problem with the way CNN is using it's website to promote the Bush agenda.

Don't get me wrong. I have no problem with the mother or the story.

1. Propaganda to offset the Cindy Sheehan story
They must bring forth all the pro war, pro bu$h possible to counter what is making news regardless of their efforts.

It is the Reich Wing controlled media in its "Last Throes"

5. No, it isn't.
Not unless they intend on reporting from every fallen soldier's funeral. Just more cherry-picking.

6. Agree, but why today?
I've seen them report on maybe three other funerals.

Report on the stories that are news worthy and let us decide how to think.

3. Poor lady...
Can't come to terms with the fact that her son died for nothing. That's what they cling to. Sad, really. And you are right, unless they report on every soldier's funeral, they are using that death for political gain. Interesting how they can accuse Cindy Sheehan of doing that, then turn around and do EXACTLY that themselves. Bastids.

4. I'm so disappointed in CNN nowadays.
It bears no resemblance to the network it was when Ted Turner was in charge (and speaking as a native Atlantan, I was proud that such a fine news organization came out of my own hometown).

Of course, that was a long time ago.

Living in the UK now, at least there's still CNN International for me to watch, and which still functions as a news channel, rather than a propaganda one.

7. Nothing but propaganda. Almost 2000 US soldiers dead
so far. Do they write about every funeral ceremony? Give me a break, that's only because of Sheehan.

8. The way I see it....
I'm happy that CNN is covering the funeral. I think the news channels should be covering all the funerals. We need to see the consequences of war and we need to have the daily reminder soldiers are losing their lives. My problem with CNN is that they took too long to show the funerals.

Do I agree with Kathy Dyer? It's her pain and the loss of her son...my opinion could never compare. It isn't a stretch to understand why she believes what she does. Her son was very proud of his service and I don't know anyone who wants to believe that the pain and loss is for nothing.

When I hear stories like this one, I'm reminded of the phone call I received from my brother before he was deployed to Iraq. He and I had a long, tearful (for me) conversation and he told me he never doubted my support for him even though I was against this war. The memorable part of that phone call though is when he handed the phone over to his wife. My sister in-law asked me if I thought there were WMD's in Iraq. I told her I wasn't convinced. When I asked her the same question, her response: "My husband is going to Iraq. I have to believe there are weapons of mass destruction".

From that day on, I understood. I still don't agree, but I understand. She raised two young boys, worked full-time, and lived with the constant fear of losing the love of her life every day until he was back home safe in her arms. Through the fear and worry, she had to act strong and optimistic for her sons. (btw, he is now safe at home thank Goddess).

At the end of the day, you believe what you have to believe in order to stay sane.
