Cindy and the New Orleans Peace Train - Still time to get On Board

"When the Amtrak Crescent leaves New Orleans Sept. 22, Cindy Sheehan will be on board.

Two months ago while exhausted from a Summer Soulstice peace festival, and while looking with dismay into a long hot summer of war, Louisiana attorney Buddy Spell, his spouse Annie, and their guest of honor Cindy Sheehan decided they needed to do something, but not something too high energy. So they browsed through the train schedule and designated an Amtrak Crescent as their Peace Train. Come September they'd board the train in New Orleans and put out word to folks along the way to hop on for a ride to the big peace march in Washington D.C. That would be enough to keep their peace hopes on track. Of course, that was then.

"We had about 60 people signed up before Cindy went to Crawford," says Buddy, "but that has tripled." With a pre-boarding rally in Covington, Louisiana the night before Cindy and friends depart, the little town of Covington may soon be feeling like next month's Crawford. And when the train hits Union Station, Buddy says 'old fart' activists will be greeted by the Campus Action Network, and wherever they go for the weekend, they will be marching 500 strong. And that's how you go in just a couple of months from a little ol’ z-net zap to a global headliner by way of the little ditch that could."

2. I want to go with my 10 year old son
out of greensboro. Do I just use the Amtrack link for the tickets? I want to be sure we board the same train. Thank you for the information funkybutt!

:)

4. Yes everyone bought their tickets independently from Amtrak
On the Amtrak page select the "Crescent" route. Check that the train times correlate with those listed above. There is only one Crescent train coming through going north per day. It is my understanding that they can add cars to the train to accomodate more but not add another train.

Please let someone at the Louisiana Activist Network know once you have purchased your ticket

We'll be looking for y'all in Greensboro!

5. I just printed up the schedule....
I see the Crescent is the one from New Orleans. I plan on returning Sunday morning. My son has school Monday! Now I need to find a hotel. I see that Holiday Inn they are linked to still has rooms but the rates come up as two different ones. I will call them directly I guess. Thank you so much. My son and I are so very excited! I will be sure to let the Louisiana Activist Network know when I have completed the details.

Thank you so much! I can't wait to meet everyone!

We have to be back on Monday too. Flying out Sunday.

8. I'm not sure
Originally we heard people talking of having trains coming in from all over. I'd imagine that if you got on a train from Boston to D.C. just before the 24th, you'd encounter quite a few people headed to the same protest.

Hell, make your own peace train!
