2. In such a short period of time this woman has been through more
than anyone should be allowed to bear. My thoughts, love and prayers are with Cindy.

Peace.

4. not to mention the prick husband who HAD to file for divorce now
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 05:53 PM by LibraLiz1973
That wasn't very supportive.

EDit: Then again, his parents are the ones that released the anti Cindy statement. So I guess we see where he gets his crap attitude from. I really thought filing now (when he new it would get national attention) was REALLY low

13. Today I watched a video that brought me to tears...
Cindy was talking about how Saturday was the 6th best day of her life. The first four were the days she gave birth to her children, the 5th was her wedding day and the 6th was Sat. at Crawford. I sobbed.

Geez...they were high school sweethearts. I would like to see him support her in Crawford...even if only for a day. That would shut those RW hacks up in a minute. Casey was a son to both parents.

She has given up so much to do the right thing. She is my hero.

Peace.

21. Cindy has released a statement on that:
"The first one is about my divorce. I addressed this on my blog the other night. My divorce was in the works way before I came out to Crawford. My husband filed the papers before this all started. It just recorded last Friday. My husband didn't know that it would become public record, and public knowledge. He had told his lawyer not to serve me with the paperwork or even bother me while I was at Camp Casey. He was trying to do the right thing. He didn't want me to find out. Enough about that."

Her poor mom, and her poor family. What a hard thing to heal from. May she have peace of soul and a blessed heart.

5. No kidding! To lose her son, husband and mother in such short time?
Accoring to reports I've read, the death of a child is the absolute worst stress inducer in the world...But divorce is like three, and losing a parent is like four. I wonder how she keeps from cracking up!

May she be blessed.

6. God bless you Cindy and to your mom as well.
Blessings to all who carry on in Cindy's absence.

Blessings to those who cannot see Cindy's truth; that the light may come to them.

Amen.

8. Not to be a wet blanket or anything
but I don't come to a SECUALR political discussion board in a SECULAR society to be exhorted to PRAY. It really is offensive to me -- and hell, I'm not even one of the anti-religion atheists here at DU. I BELIEVE in prayer, God (or GAWD: God, A Woman Deity as I prefer it), an afterlife, etc.

I just don't want to have to have my face rubbed in it in a SECULAR place like DU.

I just don't.

9. Then this begs the question....
Why did you click on this link, exactly? It's not like you didn't know what would be contained here.

This is in GD, not the atheists' forum. Others are finding ways to deal with their feelings for Cindy.

10. Funny, I'm largely an anti-religion atheist,
and yet I think posting what you just did in this place at this time is shockingly obnoxious. Takes all kinds, I guess...

11. You get offended by seasons changing
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 06:31 PM by HEyHEY
Just turn a blind eye, and learn some tolerance. I've never been to church myself but I'm not going to start telling people they have to hide their religion from me.
And if you don't like religion being rubbed in your face, don't rub your belief of a woman deity in ours

12. Frankly, you just were a wet blanket
Edited on Thu Aug-18-05 06:36 PM by LibraLiz1973
I thought that post was ridiculous & overly nit-picky. I GET that you wanted to used the word SECULAR multiple times. (By the by- check the spelling on that first one) The funniest thing about your post is- you just wrote that to someone who hasn't seen the inside of a church since my grandmother died in 1999. I'm not religious per say, but I do think PRAYING for someone in need is highly appropriate. Pray to god, buddha, jesus, allah, fairies, characters from lord of the rings, your guardian angel... pray to whatever you like. The request was to pray, not attend church and take confession. Sheesh.

17. Lot of sectarian talk going on lately. I agree with Eloriel.
If you want to exhort people to pray, pray do it in the religion and theology rooms. The following quotes express my feelings towards prayer:

Two hands working can do more than a thousand clasped in prayer. ~Author Unknown

Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion, and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish. ~Author Unknown

I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. ~Frederick Douglass, escaped slave

Best wishes, high hopes and all that, but it seems the HEIGHT of arrogance to believe that you can call on the "powers" of the gods to do your bidding.

That said, I personally wish all people of good will good wishes!

PRAY! she said..

Here is what I think of when ordered, in CAPS, to PRAY:

I'd rather send a donation.

27. You make an excellent point
I think we would all benefit by a less religiously charged atmosphere. A better choice of words would have been to ask everyone to keep Cindy in their thoughts and to pray if they are so inclined. A general call to prayer is by definition exclusionary and divisive on a secular board.

18. again... it isn't about god.
but I think some people just have to let everyone know they dont believe in god. We get it.

I guess you also don't believe that a group of people "praying", "meditating" or "sending" positivity to someone doesn't work.

It isnt a "waste of time" to send someone your thoughts & wish them well. The universe could use ALOT more of that.

20. I think asking people to "extend their best wishes" might have
gone over a little better.
Some of us in Fundyland get a little touchy about being told to pray.

23. You know how left and right sometimes oddly meet --
like when the ACLU and the far Right meet on some issue of personal freedom? Well, I think atheists and fundies often meet in the realm of intolerance. And both think they have the answer no one else has, and are superior for that. You have every right to post this thread. It can be ignored by those who choose, or even hidden.

24. Yes, some people allegedly on our side are every bit as sanctimonious,
judgmental, and quick to condemn as the worst Falwellian.

As the French say, "les extrèmes se touchent."

26. well if it's not about God
then why pray to him and then end your post with God Bless?

I prefer to actually support Cindy by sending her written support and wishes for success. I'd send money if I could, I'd go to Texas if I could.
