Will 'Peace Mom' Be the Start of an Anti-War Movement or Just a Summer

Story ? An AP News Analysis (rest of headline)

http://ap.tbo.com/ap/breaking/MGBMWM2QJCE.html

WASHINGTON (AP) - What began as one mother's vigil on a country road in Texas two weeks ago has grown into a nationwide protest, putting a grieving human face to the miseries of war and the misgivings about President Bush's strategies in Iraq.

It's still not clear whether Cindy Sheehan's effort was the start of a lasting anti-war movement or a fleeting summertime story fueled by media-savvy liberal interest groups.

Sheehan left the camp Thursday, rushing to the side of her mother, who had had a stroke in California. She said she would be back if possible before Bush leaves his ranch for Washington on Sept. 3.

While her backers maintain the vigil in Texas, Republican Party leaders are worried that the so-called Peace Mom has brought long-simmering unease over Iraq to a boil by galvanizing anti-war activists. They fear that protests will strike a chord with the large number of Americans who have long felt uneasy about the war yet have been giving Bush the benefit of the doubt.

and she is the "chosen one" I can't believe the divorce had to come about, and then the Mom of Miss Cindy having a stroke, but it is all part of "the Plan"

9. Crack?
I am a 50 year old Grandmother. Maybe I should cut back a little on the Red Dog, but please, that was not very nice.

3. That's not up to Cindy.
She's given this thing a helluva start. Now we need to sieze this golden opportunity and relentlessly keep hammering away at this.

Contact representatives and senators.
Write LTTE.
Call into radio programs

Cindy's even given us a great clarion call.

"For what noble reason did we go into Iraq?"

We ask the question over and over and over and over again.

4. with all due respect to Cindy Sheehan...
...she certainly did not "start" the anti-war movement. What she has done is give some much needed visibility to the movement, given it a face many people can empathize with, and she has helped bring many folks who were not previously aware of it into the movement.

5. I Have Waited So Long...
...for the chance to get back at Bush. I *want* this to become a bigger movement. I have been so depressed since Bush was re-elected. What Cindy has done has given me the first real hope in months. I bet plenty of others on our side feel the way I do. So I really, really want this to continue. I have had my fill of Bush & his gang of crooks.

have been doing all these years, what the **** do they think all the marches, protests and vigils, the millions on the streets on feb 15 '03 were all about?

oh, that's right, they don't ever bother covering these events, so I guess they never occurred

and don't think the other side doesn't know it. For me that fight lasts till the day I die. A Month - 20 years? - all the time I got.

And I'll tell you whut - they better hope there ain't no reincarnation - cause if there is I'm coming back bigger and uglier than ever - thinkin a Mastadon - just to screw with their heads.

12. I was interviewed by a KC Star reporter l ast night who asked me
if I thought the press was paying attention only cause they were bored with * on vacation.

I told him I took offense to that because the White House Press Corp isn't bored, it's LAZY. The most scandalous of stories in modern American History are taking place right under their noses and they, by and large, do nothing.

13. It's Camp Casey, not Camp Cindy
Cindy kicked it off; it's up to the rest of us to keep it going. That being said, what can we do to help Cindy and her mom?
