Why no "real" war footage..? |
|
we were talking about the differences between ww2,viet Nam,and Iraq Wars.as a kid,I still remember the film from viet Nam,censored as it may have been.I'm trying to remember the last time I saw footage from iraq.I'm talking footage of our soldiers fighting over there. We saw some news reels from D-Day,showing the men fighting, and getting blown up,sometimes. What's the difference? My friend's son is a journalist, and she says it isn't the journalists' decisions-who controls the media?

2. I believe that starting with the Gulf War, |
|
the military established such strict guidelines that most journalists could rarely get any footage that wasn't approved by the government. From what I understand about Iraq now, many of them are restricted in their movements because of safety factors and military control - there is some fear of kidnapping. Journalists who are embedded with the troops themselves are also subject to more censorship by commanders, and I think their movements are somewhat monitered as well.
If I remember correctly, the rationale during the first Gulf War was that negative reporting might hurt or reveal information inadvertantly to the enemy - of course, as we all know, to the wingnuts ANY information is treasonous if it isn't framed by the flag.
By the way, thanks for putting your kid's pic in there. I'll say a prayer and keep positive thoughts for him and his buddies there.

My friend's kid is in israel, but he stated pretty much the same thing-that it is just too dangerous for the journalists over there.(which is something, considering he has been in Gaza for a year)

in the film "Control Room" in the beginning you see the people of Al-Jazeera talking and they say they have to tell the Pentagon the exact locations where they will be at. So that's what makes me question all the killings of those journalist's and the Italian journalist ordeal. Whatever happened with that?

5. our government considers it in bad taste |

to show the carnage. they show the bombs bursting in air and the rocket's red glare, but only bombed buildings and blown up vehichles. three days of reality war photos and ameriKa would wake up. my daughter did her senior project on the realities of the Iraq war using photos of the effects of depleted uranium, dead and wounded u.s. soldiers and iraqi citizens. she was accused of getting the photos from "another" war somewhere. it is psy-op here in amerika, carfully orchestrated to keep us quiet.

It'll show people the truth. Why else was Rumsfeld so against Al-Jazerra? Watch the documentary "Control Room." You'll see there why. You can catch the film the Sundance channel.

And I have selfishly talked him out of enlisting.
I cannot begin to imagine what you think & feel on a daily basis.
I have 3 beautiful grandchildren by my son. My oldest grand-daughter (the middle child--3yrs old) is a carbon copy of me! I so want her to become the first female Navy Seal. If you knew me you would understand. I think we probably have a lot in common. :)
The pentagon keeps a tight lid on the info coming from Iraq. I will stay with you through these tough times. Your beautiful son has a loving shield around him. Please believe in that.

11. I saw actual live footage of two wounded soldiers in blown up tank on CNN |
|
one morning months ago. The tank had just been hit by incoming fire and the two poor soldiers were crawling out of the hatch. They were very bloody and badly wounded. Other soldiers attempted to help them and aid them. It was raw and uncensored and I've never been able to find any record of it on the CNN website ever again. I saw this on American CNN live news. It was replayed several times within maybe a half an hour then it was gone. Poof. Along with all of the other real footage. :(

:( Thankfully there is the internet. I remember seeing a photo of a young Iraqi boy (I imagine) who was a teenager and he was trying to help someone else but he didn't make it and the top of his body was blown off while the rest of him was still holding onto the person. I will never forget that photo.

I think it became very clear during the vietnam era that broadcasting American soldiers blowing up was bad for business.

20. There is footage but we aren't seeing it. |
|
It can be seen on Al Jazeera, and other overseas TV. While we were still able to get CBC there was a certain amount filmed about the Canadian troops. We apparently won't see it here, unless Michael Moore is able to get hold of a bunch of footage and make another movie he will be trashed for by the right.
