President's Day TODAY: Celebrate it !! |
|
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 07:01 AM by panzerfaust
On this day, August 19th, in 1934 Hitler was elected president of Germany: with 90% of the vote (as counted).
He had already, in January 1933, been appointed chancellor by president von Hindenburg and by February of that year – in response to the Reichstag fire – impelled von Hindenburg to suspend German’s civil rights and liberties to stem the supposed communist plot. Hitler then used the force of the government to silence his political enemies by intimidation or arrest.
After becoming president, he simply had them executed.
Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it. ~ Santayana
Posterity: you will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it. ~ John Quincy Adams
So, we’uns is Posterity. Howd y’all think we’re doing?

1. I look at the wingnuts |

and at the constant propaganda from FAUX News, without anything to sufficiently counter it (CNN lacks guts) and I fear what happened in Nazi Germany is VERY possible here in the U.S. We must do what we can to turn the tide.
