I appreciate America's Religious Freedoms
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 08:33 AM by mopaul
i really do, a country ruled by theocrats is not a country i want to live in. some countries have an official, enforced religion and exclude all others, i hope america never ends up like that.

i enjoy seeing american hindus, shiites, catholics, mormons, baptists and scientologists all living together. i enjoy our balance and tolerance, and i agree with the freedom of religion concept entirely.

i am an atheist, and i appreciate not being killed or chastized over it, much as a jew appreciates not being oppressed in america. i hope we can keep this balance and tolerance as long as possible, and prevent one religion from gaining dominion over another, or over america.

1. Well said
I'm an atheist too and intolerant religious nutjobs are the reason we have all these wars all over the world and the worst religious nutjob is the Texas twirp. I cringe everytime I see any politician talk about god.

2. Me too
I live in a very diverse neighborhood. One of the most ethnically mixed I have ever seen. It fast becoming some of the most affordable property in Seattle. I love being able to smile at Muslim women who wear those beautiful flowing garments, and have them smile back without fear. Or see some of the lovely Buddhist flavored gardens. Or even have my Christian Cambodian neighbor (Who lived through Pol Pot and lost many loved ones) try to talk me into going to church once in a while (she's absolutely lovely, there's no pressure) I'm agnostic/atheist. I think the only thing that keeps me from being a complete atheist is physics. History shows that religious freedom is a precious gift and a human right. As long as no one agenda is being pushed down our throats like those monsters in the white house want to do, we have the freedom to find our own spiritual path. It should be the cornerstone of what America is supposed to be.
