John Conyers is the Real President by Ray Beckerman
I agree!

August 19, 2005

John Conyers is the Real President

As my readers know, I usually try to just report things, and refrain from giving my personal opinions. But sometimes I just have to say something. And this is one of those times.

I've been watching the work of Congressman John Conyers, Jr., since November, 2004.

On every single important issue in this country, he is on the side of right, and has been leading the struggle for fairness, and for restoring the rule of law.

If the United States is the sum total of the values expressed in the Declaration of Indendence and the United States Constitution, the historic love of its people for freedom, and their historic legacy of making freedom ring, John Conyers is the de facto President of the United States.

2. when would be the best time to start a draft Conyers movement?
after the midterm elections?

I don't know if we the people deserve to have him as our nominee (I can hear the "America isn't ready" excuses now), but it sure would be nice. I'm ready to talk and act seriously about it any time of day. the man is a hero.

5. how about right now?!
Im new here but... Im really surprised this post hasnt garnered more attention!!! Is congressman Conyers not the perfect person to represent us?
I for one, a work-from-home DU addict graphic designer would be happy to do whatever I can to contribute to a draft Conyers project. And I think a lot of people would stand with John Conyers over ANY of our other current or potential options. no?
Up here in NH... I already see hillary '08 stickers...

9. Welcome to DU, Bee!
:hi:

And I'm with you--Conyers is a giant in a land of pygmies, a visionary in a land of the blind, a patriot in a land gone mad. He would make a great president.

:hi:

13. 78?! He doesn't look it.
it doesn't bother me, but looking back on last years candidate pool, I'm sure it will get discussed (among other factors)

10. Now would be a good time!
Conyers walks the walk -- but that's precisely why the party won't nominate him.

I respect Mr. Conyers and his work for our country more than any elected official or party leader current. I would support him for president any time any where with all I had. If the history of these times is ever freely and truthfully written (maybe in some foreign country that still is free), John Conyers will be remembered in the same breath and in the same manner as our Founders, as Lincoln, as FDR...

12. I first noticed John Conyers during the Clinton witch hunt.
I've watched Congressman Conyers ever since and I couldn't agree more, with the piece the op posted. There are but a handful of politicians left in Washington, that I still totally trust and admire and Mr. Conyers is one such person. He truly is a patriot IMHO!
