Republicans Kill Shumer Amendment for Independent Investigation-update
Edited on Tue Sep-30-03 02:31 PM by Q
- Daschle up now in support of Shumer amendment. Says that Ashcroft can't be expected to offer an 'independent' investigation. "As we demand of others that WE respect the rule of law."

Schumer amendment: Expresses sense of the senate that law should be upheld in the leak of CIA employee's name.

4. Schumer, Daschle and Boxer asking help from Republicans
Edited on Tue Sep-30-03 01:55 PM by Q
Shumer: To reveal a covert operative is a crime...not a leak. There's a crime committed here...a serious crime. What makes it worse is that it appears to have been committed in 'malice'.

Boxer: Something outrageous. Boxer wants to be added as co-sponsor to Shumer's amendment for an independent prosecutor. Mentions that the head of the CIA asks for an investigation. The fact is whether she was an agent or analyst is not the point....she was working 'under cover'.

- Boxer, Daschle and Shumer are making a strong case. They're urging the Republicans to put aside politics to see that justice is done.

5. Pay attention people...the Senate is about to vote for...
...an Independent Prosecutor.

- Chances are it will be a 'party line' vote. Boxer says she will 'not let this go' even if it's voted down.

13. Well, if Repubs vote against that
Are they stating that they arbitrarily feel that law should NOT be upheld in this case? That would look pretty damn stupid. (Doesn't mean they won't still do it though :()

16. But do the GOPers want to be on record as voting against it?
- Senator Durbin up now: calling for independent prosecutor' to investigate this very serious crime. The disclosure of 'such a person' can endanger lives. A decision was made within the Bush* admin to jeapordize this person and their career. Durbin is now talking about Nixon's enemy list...says this like his enemy list...trying to silence their critics.

Edited on Tue Sep-30-03 02:25 PM by Q
...this amendment and the Dems have about 8 minutes left.

- Reid of Nevada up now. Reid calling it 'retaliation' for Wilson opposing Bush*. "Loose lips sink ships". Says if we need a independent prosecutor to investigate 'land deal' then certainly this deserves the same attention.

- The AMENDMENT FALLS. Republican point of order: not germane.

- That's the end of it boys and girls. The GOP coverup continues.

- The debate changes to other issues.

Expect many weak knees, but there's a chance this could rain on their reelect. Any moderate R's up next fall? They better watch out.

Same thing happening with the media. It's time to come to Jesus, or lurk in the shadows. History is watching.

49. There was no vote...or count...
...the Republicans objected that the amendment was not 'germane' to the bill it was attached to. That stopped the debate.

- I can't see how the Dems can get such a thing passed when there are so many RWing zealots in the Senate. GOPers in the senate do what's good for the Republican party...not the people.
