Happy Birthday, Mr. President.... |
|
I just saw on CNN that Bill Clinton is 59 years old today.
I laughed out loud, literally, when Wolf Blitzer referred to him as "Senator Clinton's husband".
I've seen enough here to know that President Clinton isn't that popular... but I love him. I disagreed with some of his policies, but he was the consummate "get-things-done" kinda guy.
He had a Republican congress to deal with, and still made great progress. It's easy to ignore political realities and dream about a Kucinich-like leader... but that's not gonna happen.
Clinton knew the game and he played it. He brought down Gingrich and Livingston. He wins. Game over.
Happy birthday, Mr. President.

Ditto what you said, Kenroy! I didn't agree with everything he did, but Bill Clinton was one of the best presidents this nation has had. I miss him terribly and hope he's able to accomplish much in his post-presidential endeavors.

Despite the concerted effort by the right to demonize him, he was incredibly popular, and undeniably successful.
Even when they impeached him, his popularity went UP.
He's up there with Washington, Lincoln and FDR in my pantheon of personal heroes.
