compromised intel on WMDs.... just what might fly under the radar |
|
we don't know - because we don't know how serious a breech. Though a CIA person last night, on one of the news shows indicated there was serious damage done (to intelligence). All we know is it was related to tracking WMD.
So what stories do we know from the last 6 months where this could be a problem. What could this leak of compromised?
Today - NKorea walks away from talks (regarding nukes) - indicating it won't return. The country's economy is in shambles. Will they make money by selling nuke technology... or worse weaponry? Will we have less capacity to monitor the situation with accuracy (and thus try to intervene or stymie/stop such an attempted sale) due to "the leak"?
Five months ago - Iraq. US troops secured oilfields, but we later learned did nothing to secure nuclear energy facilities - was their technology and/or equipment that could be used as weaponry if it falls into the wrong hands? I believe that at the time it was reported there was fear that some looting had already occured. Is our capacity to monitor flow of materials - looking for a change in flow due to a sudden influx of additional materials - diminished? Will we be able to detect such a thing, let alone ... stop it?
Given the seriousness of the stories, I for one would like to know what was put at risk by the cynical political maneuvering of the administraiton - how much greater of a risk does the country face? Why for some is the compromising of national security... a non issue? And for those who want it to drop as a story - would they be aiding and abetting terrorists who are working to get those materials now that the intel might be so challenged that it wouldn't be tracked - aiding by encouraging the administration to pretend nothing serious happened and that there is NO damage control (not spin - but actual damage control) that needs to occur?

1. no speculation on the potential impact? |

The right is GREAT about spinning fear. So doesn't this scenario - at the hands of their own actions - allow for the same tactic?

3. This is a breech in the war on terrorism. |
|
Mrs. Wilson was not opening mail, she was not working the help desk ,she was monitoring the movement of WMD components around the world !! She was doing this for one of the most powerful organizations in the world. It is possible that her position is the hub of a network that takes many many years to build.
We are compromised.

2. Makes you wonder how serious this administration is about WMD |
|
As you point out, we haven't talked ernesrtly with NK, we didn't make securing the nuclear material a priority in Iraq. This administration has done squat with beefing up our Port security where we have major vulnerability. Now they recklessly expose CIA agents to extract revenge and send a signal to others not to cross them. Not just any agent either....one that was intimately involved with monitoring proliferation of WMD within terrorist organizations.
So I conclude that the whole charade of torquing up terror and WMD is designed to cover actions that ultimately line Republican contributor's pocketbooks...nothing more.
The Congressional Republicans are busy covering these criminals tracts...I just pray that American sense of fair play and understanding that Republicans are making us less secure will begin to sink in before it is too late....

5. Reaching for the Reynolds Wrap |

How 'bout this one: They went after Plame because her team made it difficult for the neocons to plant their WMDs in Iraq.
Halliburton was looking to outsource WMD planting but couldn't find any candidates that didn't have the CIA crawling up their ass.
Not that I believe it, but crazier schemes have been hatched by these madmen.
