Bill Kristol's commentary regarding Cindy Sheehan on PBS's Newshour
He said that what's going on with Cindy Sheehan is "grotesque" and that the libruls had found a new weapon, martyrdom. When Tom Oliphant mentioned Ms. Roberts from GA, who is going to stand in for Cindy, Kristol said "Let's see what trou... let's see what kind of attention the media gives to it." What a creep.

3. Kristol was way off the mark in his interview.
I heard him and he totally misunderstands what this is about. All he wants to do is defend W's war and his own warmongering as it becomes more and more unpopular.

he'd have to tell the truth if it were NY, as he said on Daily Show

Lehrer is in DC, though, IIRC

so I guess they were in DC. Yeah, he had a weird smile, like he knows trouble is in the air or something.

worse than a grimace: call it a rictus

19. check the comedy central site....they have lots of clips, and that one
was among the very most remarked upon

maybe the best interview JS has ever done: he got Krystol to say things like "would you have the guy who drove the bus into the ditch be the one to try to get it back out," and THEN ask himself why on earth he ever said it.

he then said something like "I'm not in DC now, so I can tell the truth."

amazing stuff

29. technical term: "rictus"
from http://dictionary.reference.com/wordoftheday/archive/2003/02/06.html

rictus \RIK-tuhs\, noun:
1. The gape of the mouth, as of birds.
2. A gaping grin or grimace.

A rictus of cruel malignity lit up greyly their old bony faces.

7. WHY WHY WHY doesn't whatever "lib" commentator going up w/WK
mention every time that he's a founder of PNAC, and demand Krystol explain what that means before he's allowed to say ANYTHING?

it only would take a few seconds to axe such a question

15. there's a reason people like him don't get on much:
they don't swallow the BS the far right spews; they CALL em on it

ergo, they don't get axed back

you ever see the time when PK was on Russert's saturday show with OReilly?

it was astonishing: OReilly barely restrained himself from physically going after Krugman, who basically called him a knownothing liar.

30. yeah krugman called him a "quasi murderer" and orielly went nuts
it was a geat moment in tv history.

actually when i found out oliphant was on instead of mark shields, i went to bed.

oliphant acts like an intellectual whimp who is such a caricature for what the right wing describes as liberal that i cringe when i see him talk for moderates, because lets face it, oliphant is not a leftist.

rather i would love to see gore vidal on to eviscerate the right wingt, but no one dares put him on. he tells too much truth

25. I think it's VERY instructive as to the so-called liberal bent of PBS
Edited on Fri Aug-19-05 08:14 PM by Gabi Hayes
the segment he was part of was supposed to involve JOURnalists of opposite political persuasion

by what stretch of any programmer's febrile imagination has Krystol EVER been a journalist? Propagandist, certainly, in guise of whatever far right slick toilet paper he scribbles on, but NEVER, EVER a journalist

shame on PBS for putting him on

course, shame on PBS for using Gwen Ifill (sp) in a putatively journalistic role

but, then, there are so many more on that government propaganda outlet....

from another thread, here's my favorite Goebbels quote:

"Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play."

course, that's if it's a far right republican government. it most assuredly does NOT work the other way

32. Oliphant milquetoast/masterfully hoisted BK on his own petard
and gently fanned him, hanging there in the breeze, blowing gentle puffs of understated clarity (TRUTH) that sparked and fired up Kristol's face full of bitterness and hatred, til he almost spontaneously combusted and became BBQ'd Repug.

38. I thought it was a great moment - the absolute frustration
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 04:44 AM by AussieDave
in Kristol's demeanor and voice were palpable - the frustration that the Republican "talking points" simply aren't working in this instance and are sounding more absurd every day.

And Tom Oliphant in his quiet gentlemanly way just shot him down by saying that the Cindy Sheehan phenomenon isn't an anti-war movement, it's a frustration movement - frustration that Bush can't or won't explain exactly what's going on in Iraq, how long it will last, how much it will cost, and the fact he can't come clean about it.
