History Channel just mentioned KAL 007 in passing... Ready 4 a conspiracy?
"The drive of the Rockefellers and their allies is to create a one-world government combining super-capitalism and Communism under the same tent, all under their control.... Do I mean conspiracy? Yes I do. I am convinced there is such a plot, international in scope, generations old in planning, and incredibly evil in intent."

-- 1976, by Representative Larry P. McDonald. (D), 7th District, Georgia. (killed aboard KAL Flight 007)

On September 1, 1983, Korean Air Lines flight 007, on its way from Anchorage, Alaska to Seoul, Korea, carrying 269 passengers and crew, strayed off its intended course and entered into Soviet airspace. A Soviet Sukhoi 15 fighter jet, piloted by Major Gennadie Osipovich, was sent up to destroy the intruding Boeing 747.

This, at the height of the Cold War era, was a major international incident. At the time, it was - and still is - widely believed that the plane "exploded", "plummeted uncontrollably" into the ocean, and was "destroyed," killing all aboard, including Lawrence ("Larry") Patton McDonald, Representative (D), 7th District, Georgia.

The evidence, however, tells another story. Japanese radar trackings, Soviet ground-to-ground and ground-to-air communications, KAL 007's flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder, the debris (and lack thereof), eye-witness testimonies... All these and more, when pieced together, tell of a plane which was, indeed, damaged, but which managed to land safely, and of passengers who survived and were rescued by the Russians -- only to be imprisoned to this day. What really happened to Korean Air Lines flight 007?

Quite interesting stuff, re: Bush's, NWO, John Birch Society, et al.
Worth reading the entire page. Was Lawrence Patton McDonald assasinated?

5. Yes it does...
And supposedly Rep McDonald was going to run for Prez in '88 and/or stage a coup to return the gov't to its consitutional roots.

4. I dunno...
But the Soviets habitually did this to downed US military pilots during the cold war.

7. Which book?
Quick snip:

In the November 1991 Reader's Digest, John Barron, who has long had excellent connections with the intelligence community, reported that the Soviets had launched rescue operations immediately when KAL 007 went down and that the military soon radioed Moscow that they had downed a civilian plane and that some of the passengers were Americans. How could they have known the nationality of the passengers if they had all vanished into thin air, along with their passports, other identification and their luggage? This supplements all the other evidence that indicates that the plane made a soft landing and that nearly all those aboard survived and were made prisoners by the Soviet Union.

14. The Target Is Destroyed
I read it a long time ago. Hersch is considered quite credible. Editors trust him to cite good sources. He is noted for busting the Mai Lai Massacure in Vietnam, I recall. (Not sure of the spellin of Mai Lai--?)

10. I love a good CT....but this one's really hard to believe.
I do recall that there was talk back then that KAL flights were doing double duty. They flew flights real close to Russian territory and occaisionally strayed off course to gather intelligence on Russian military bases/operations. Their cover, of course, was being a commercial aircraft. They probably thought the Russians would never shoot one down....

11. Well, it's a long shot
But an interesting idea. The fact that 2 KAL flights were downed by the USSR raises red flags - perhaps your recon idea is correct.

13. LOL. You have got to be kidding, right?
I'm willing to consider a LOT of things when it comes to conspiracy theories, but this one is just laughable.
