After the '70s oil crisis, did the ME folks deliberately set us up?
For when we use up the bulk of the supply?

Given there's a long-standing fued between our respective religions, wouldn't entrapping us in this manner eventually defeat us? Oil is not renewable (abiotic oil is a farce, otherwise the US' depleted and/or abandoned wells would have filled up again by now - case closed) and to get us to use it that much more quickly would be a godsend to them.

Indeed, reagan wouldn't be happy that Communist China is poised to take over the world thanks to US offshoring. Whoops. (maybe a double-whoops that I'd properly punctuate China, which I shouldn't be because of their political ways...)

And now Christianity is going to completely fail (it's a failure already; people say the words but either don't know them or sure as hell don't live BY the words of Christ; they prefer spouting lines from the old testament... :eyes: )

2. It wasn't the M.E. folks it was the "me" folks of US
I don't think OPEC can be blamed for a generation of no government action to shift away from the gasoline driven automobile.

Nor can OPEC be blamed for the "I'm safer in my big gas guzzling SUV" (even though the suckers rolled over if you had a blow out at highway speed)

3. Ha! It was our 'own folks' that deliberately set us up
It was Reagan and Bush I and the corporations that they served who decided that Jimmy Carter's conservation direction was an unprofitable idea. It was GM and Ford that decided bigger vehicles were better, then their marketing convinced the rest of us (most of us).

It's been our 'own' actions all along that are leading to our downfall. Our own greed, our own laziness, and our own arrogance.

Mene, mene tekel upharsin -- as they say.

4. No, they'd just shot their wad, and were too busy profiteering...
... (i.e., producing more than their OPEC quota to sell for "extra" cash), plus pressures to sell over quota to fund the Iran/Iraq war, led to the 80s and 90s being times of relatively plentiful and cheap oil (certainly relative to the 70s).

The people who 'set us up' were (and are) the Reaganites with their "government can do no good" and "free trade" ideologies (and/or connections to exisating oil/gas/coal interests) which held Carters alternative energy programs as an anathema, and squelched any incubator programs that weren't pork for Republican pals.
