5. To be honest with you, neither do I
In the US we still pay about 1/3 what they do in most of europe, a work colleague was recently visiting England and he was paying almost one pound per litre which equates to about $7 per gallon.
Get used to it, buy a more economical car.

9. Europe has a much better mass-transit system...
I lived in Switzerland for a few months while visiting a friend in the 1980s. I was amazed at the mass transit there. An electric train connects the cities, towns, and villages, and an electric tram connects various points inside the cities. I met many Swiss citizens who didn't have drivers' licenses and didn't want them. You don't have to drive in Switzerland.

I visited England and Scotland a few years later and the samething seems to hold there.

If we had the same mass-transit systems, I wouldn't care that much about how $7 per gallon gas. But such a price increase would cripple the average American who is dependent on cars due to the "build your housing project or strip mall anywhere you want and let government try to work out transportation systems after the fact" mentality that has existed in this country since WWII.

10. What does that $7 buy the average Englishman?
Perhaps more than a gallon of gas?

11. 'Never Settle' I'm guessing. Person is probably either an attorney, or
just another person with more money than sense saying "never settle for anything less than the most gaudy, ostentatious, wasteful and obnoxious car you can get".

6. The driver must be a plaintiff's attorney
"never settle - always litigate"

I bet the owner has a pit bull too.

( while I strongly defend the tort system, I think there is much substance to the stereotypes of attorneys)

7. Never Settle..
it's the wealthy people's way of saying that they must always have the very best of everything. Never settle for second best. Never buy a fuel efficient car when you could have a Hummer to fuel your lagging self esteem, and create a sense of self worth you seem to lack.

The worst Hummer plate I saw here in Washington State was.. simply.. GOP

12. Never settle
for a Chevy Tahoe, when you can pay three times as much for the exact same chasis with a faux-military body stuck on it.
