An Anti War Song
http://savefile.com/files/4193440

Thanks goes out to "soup" for the tip on where to place this file out there for viewing.

This is a rough draft of a song I wrote, performed and recorded in the last day. I am not a recording engineer, so go easy on me folks.

4. .
I hashed out the simple drum pattern w/ a demo version of Reason that came w/ an M-Audio I/O card. Guitar is an old Yamaha acoustic(I'm really a keyboard player!). Bass patch and piano patch are from a Casio WK-3000 keyboard. I used a combination of Audacity and a Tascam porto-one 4 track to record. I sang the tune an octave lower so I wouldn't blow my voice out for tonight's gig. There's much better equipment out there, but you make due with the resources you have, is the way I always had to work.

3. Nice, very nice
the sound gets better towards the end, your voice is more in balance with the instruments

work on it, take the best parts and make a hit out of it

...And thank you very much for all the kind words, everyone!!! I agree, I'd love to see soup put a video together w/ this....it could be a totally "homegrown " piece created by fellow DU'ers!!

"Magnetic Ribbons"

Some wave the flag around and wear it on their sleeve
Never question anything and always believe what’s been said
Call me a skeptic but it doesn’t seem right
To send our loved ones over there to fight for lies we’ve been fed

“We’re fighting for our freedom” that one just don’t hold true
The people we invaded weren’t a threat to either me or you
A liberating force is what we’re told we’re supposed to be
But the people over there never asked for any help from you or me

(Chorus):
Magnetic Ribbons on your SUV,
don’t mean you’re more patriotic than me
It’s fair to question, who we have in charge.
How many more will have to die for his cause,
He claims it’s noble but it gives me pause,
I really wonder which one’s the terrorist at large

He vowed to catch them when those towers came down,
Now 4 years later and they’re still not found
He changed directions, and left the bad guys at large

What kind of lie is more harmful to you?
The kind about A soldier’s life or a stained dress that was blue?
How many more will have to die Before you ask yourself, Did I trust the wrong man?

Magnetic Ribbons on your SUV,
don’t mean you’re more patriotic than me
It’s fair to question, who we have in charge.
How many more will have to die for his cause,
He claims it’s noble but it gives me pause,
I really wonder which one’s the terrorist at large

Pay close attention and open your eyes
Before he lets another patriot die for his lies
Why call it freedom when you have to invade
It’s not liberation, if they don’t ask for our aid, now we’ve paid…….in blood (but he don’t care,….)

Goldstar Mama come to see him face to face….
Secret service won’t let her near his place
Say she’s a threat, to his security
Her son was Marine, who put his life on the line
Compassionate conservative ain’t got enough time to show he cared (or is he scared?)

“Have you forgotten?” How dare you say that to me?
Don’t try to trivialize, or patronize me.
Osama’s still around last time I checked the lost n found
Let’s fight the real enemy who struck us on our ground..

11. I really like it
The file is kind of staticy to me but from what I could hear I really like the harmony and the beat and all that. :) Good job! If you could clear it up it'd be great to pass around.

Send it to Mike Malloy at Air America Radio. I hope Cindy Sheehan gets to hear and see some of these outporings of love and peace that she has inspired.

I just emailed him w/ a link to the song.

I know it's rough, but the whole project began and ended in the course of a day right here where I sit and type, and I was just so exited I wanted to get it out there.......

18. LOVE the words, can't download the music
Darn. I tried a couple of times before I realized I don't have mp3.

It would be so great if DUers (or somebody, somewhere) put together a CD/tape of songs like this. I'd buy it in a flash. I don't know about other places, but as far as I can tell there are no radio stations playing contemporary folk songs/protest songs anywhere within range of my radio. Ditto Borders, where I buy my CDs.
