Comparison of gas prices: 2000 and 2005
The average national price of a gallon of gasoline in March of 2000 was $1.54 (Source: http://archives.cnn.com/2000/US/03/13/gas.prices.01/). Currently the national average is $2.53, and possibly higher since the posting of this story: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/08/14/national/main777516.shtml.

Unlike neo-cons and bobble heads, I can do the math: that's an increase of 64% since Clinton was in office. Has anyone here seen an increase in their income by 64% since the black day in January 2001? No?

Fuck Bush.

2. Bumper Sticker?
Could you condense this down into a bumper sticker? It would be pure poetry and I would be the first in line to buy one.

6. I'll try...
"The price of gas has risen 64% since 2000. Has your income done the same?"

18. Long bumper!
You'd need a long bumper, but excellent beginning. How about:

GAS up 64%, YOUR INCOME up _____%?

(using arrows for "up")

4. I actually have but it has nothing at all to do with Bush
and a lot to do with me. If I hadn't been a screw up I wouldn't have been unemployed in 2000 and thus not had such a low income.

14. Same here
I just got my "seasonal hire" package in the mail, and I'll be making 40% of what I made in 2000.

But, the ecomomy tastes great! Lite and less filling.

8. I paid $1.13 in 2000
Now $2.57.

It's about 13 gallons for a fillup for my car.

So $43 bucks or so now versus $15 or so.

I thought the Chimp was going to "jawbone" with his friends.

Right.

13. It's pretty ridiculous...
I paid between $1 and $1.50 in the city of Chicago 5 years ago (taxes and all), and even less out in the suburbs. Now I live in Kansas, and it's $2.60 a flippin' gallon.

:wtf:

And no, my income hasn't increased either. And my husband has had s*** for luck finding a decent-paying job out here. Never mind that he's qualified, they want cheap labor.

"Are you better off than you were (5) years ago???"

Hell, no.

* sucks.

15. Holy crap...$1.54.
The lowest I've seen in recent memory. $1.94 is about the lowest I remember paying.

Was it really only 5 years ago...?

16. actually I probably have
in march of 2000 I was a $7.25 an hour temp with no vacations, insurance, pension or holidays. Now I make $11.5 an hour with 12 days of paid vacation and sick leave and 11 paid holidays plus free health insurance. Plus I used to have a 25 mile round trip commute and now it is 1.5 miles. Not that I give Bush any credit for it, but I always pointed out that Clinton's prosperity still left a few people out. I am sure that number is higher now.

20. Bill Clinton and the Democratic Party gave us eight years
of ONE DOLLAR gasoline and 4% unemployment. It is time to go back, to the future.

21. My heating oil was cheapest under Carter and Clinton, higher under Repubs
I have filled up my heating oil tank once a year for over 25 years and just looked through my records. The lowest price was during both Carter and Clinton's Administrations when I paid an average of $.80 cents per gallon. I paid much more during the entire Reagan and both Bush Administrations. It has doubled from the price just 2 years ago since it is now well over $2 heading towards $3 per gallon.
