Bill Maher's show last night had a very important message
when the two republican neocons were being questioned about Iraq, one of them was very quick to point out that "even Hillary" thought we should have more troops in Iraq

This tells me one thing, if the democrats choose someone in 2008 who voted for the war in Iraq, this will be thrown right back at them

Paul Hackett said it best, it is too late to recover from this mistake, and we should get out of there as soon as possible

1. Good point
It took a bit longer than I hoped for Dem candidates to see the handwriting on the wall. But i am glad to see it finally happening.

Now, for 2008, the war appeasers will really have to answer a lot of brutal questions, but that goes for the Puggies too.

2. Melanie Morgan said the same thing on Hardball
last night. The problem is that few dems didn't vote against the war in Iraq because they were LIED to. The dems need to start really drilling this point home...that this administration crafted and fomented serious LIES to lead our elected officials, republicans included, to allow * to lead this nation into war.

7. true, but also the democrats better choose someone
who was smart enough to see between the lines

the UN inspectors, most of Europe, and even our state department said there was no immenient threat from Iraq

but most telling was when brent scrowcroft, and other members of the first bush administration warned it was NOT wise to go into Iraq, that should have signaled major red flags

8. Yes, they were lied to, but they were also told the truth by many credible
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 05:21 PM by KnowerOfLogic
people in positions to know the truth. The pro-war dems made their choices and decisions for whatever reasons, but whatever they were, they were as wrong as wrong could be, and these people should not be re-elected, let alone promoted to president.

13. I completely agree with you, but the ones who voted against the
war are few and far between, unfortunately, and don't fall into what the "party" line is right now. Hey, even I could see through the lies, and all I had for information was what the BFEE decided to let me have. Personally, I worked very hard on the Dean campaign in 2004.

12. "because they were LIED to" - yet some refuse to say that to this very
day :argh:

and they wonder why some see no difference between the parties

If only one of them would stand up for peace, but re-election and future prospects are too tempting to them right now.

3. Paul Hackett was the best thing on that show last night.
The only thing that came close was when Maher asked that blond zombie out of which ass she pulled that comment about Iraqi women were all wearing burkas 5 years ago.

Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 05:16 PM by ocelot
eventually an "exit strategy" will be forced on us... like this one:

This "exit strategy" occurred only after 58,000 American soldiers were killed.

like biden, liberman, feinstein, clinton, etc.

of course we have those that did figure it out, feingold, boxer, byrd, etc.

9. Russ Feingold is looking good
for a number of reasons: Rhodes Scholar, graduated with honors from Harvard Law, he voted against the Patriot Act, voted against NCLB, voted against going to war in Iraq - but voted for the $87 billion once we were in there. He nailed it before the war started - he said the rational for going to war keeps shifting - when everyone else got suckered in, he knew they were being deceptive.

11. I agree, he is my first choice at this time
unfortunately, I am not sure if it is up to the people in the democratic party to make the choice, or it is up to the DLC to choose it for us

19. I might vote for one who did, but now renounces that decision and vote.
(Excluding Republicans). Any Dem candidate who will not acknowledge that the whole thing is a catastrophe does not deserve to be president.

and you know something, he's right

we are in the middle of a civil war, with three distint groups that are not particularly fond of each other, and 2 out of those 3 view us with animosity

Last night though didn't he say we need to leave now though? I think he did. I think in his campaign he was telling better ways to train and all that. Mr. James' letter tonight was the best look at what's going on with everything over there.
