Ran into a friend who works at Wal-Mart |
|
She works at Wal-Mart on the late night shift. Since she lost her regular job and started this one I haven't see her much.
I run into her and she starts in about the war in Iraq and ** being a little weenie jerk. We talk about Cindy Sheehan and the anti-war movement that is taking shape. This isn't unusual in itself since neither of us ever could stand the little warmonger, and Cindy has been getting quite a bit of media coverage here. She says can you believe the little *sshole! He's out pimping his war in Iraq by saying it's all about 9-11 again. *uck him and his PNAC buddies. I had no idea she knew about the PNAC so that shocked me a bit, then she went on to rant about the DSM and the lies that lead us into Iraq. She’s a computer phobic person, she doesn't have internet, she doesn't even own a computer. I ask how she knows all of this and she tells me she has a friend at work (Wal-Mart) that's been spreading the word.
Speak of sweet irony. A local anti-bush movement within our Wal-Mart.
I probably should mention that this Wal-Mart is in a rural Texas town, too.
My point in posting this is that it's our job to be the voice of the movement. This person is reaching a group of people who otherwise might never have heard the truth. If even a few of them listen and learn it's worth the effort.

1. That's a heart-warming story. |
|
Most of the people who work at Walmart here are dittoheads.

3. Most of the people who live here are dittoheads |

So, I think it's safe to assume most of the people who work there are too. We're just close enough to Austin that we have some overflow, however.

4. I heard Wal Mart is being hit hard by the rise in gas prices |
|
A lot of people who shop there are having to cut back on spending because of the high price of gas. I'm sure shipping costs will make it more expensive to shop there and everywhere else too.
Its cool that the word is spreading there.

15. I know it's pie-in-the-sky but... |
|
Can you IMAGINE the quality of service we'd ALL get if only Wal-Mart and other super retailers/chains like Home Despot, Petco (is that the right name?), K-Mart, McDonalds, Staples, et al used the Costco model with their employees?
But I'm sorry for your friends misfortune. I hope it works out for her (somehow).

8. I've been trying....... |
|
I've been doing the same thing where I work. One lady has a computer at home but she doesn't use it a lot and another lady doesn't have a computer at home but we work on computers. I'm constantly sending them messages and emails about stuff that's going on.
They're both Democrats so they always like the stuff I send them. And of course, we talk about politics at work a lot.
There is another guy I sit next to at work who is into politics too. He's not really a liberal, he defines himself as a moderate. And we talk about politics too. One day he said he should get an email address so I can send him stuff too. And he's always looking over my shoulder at work.......reading my email with me.

10. I introduced my office to the Toledo Blade. They've been following |
|
the story ever since. Cheered when Taft plead "no contest." They're all Bushbots, but they are being to see the "culture of corruption."

9. This administrations is at war against us just as much as the terrorists. |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-20-05 08:14 PM by higher class
The latest example - who else would harm the economy in the way they have while raking in billions for their oil friends and stockholders?
Our only weapon against them is self-education and passing on what we know.
We must learn. We must know who is who when C-Span and the networks have a right wing propagandist on pretending to be a neutral expert on something. We need to know everyone who is doing this to us and try to understand why.
We are the target just as the darker than white skinned foreigners within and outside our borders.
They want us obedient, gullible, suubmissive and most of all - stupid.
Don't be.
Pick what bothers you the most and become your own expert. Then go on to 'major' in another subject of abuse against us. Become a citizen with your own degree and teach. Then continue to learn.

I'd like to suggest also that once you've amassed enough knowledge learn to read people and deliver the message you expect will reach them the most.
I agree they want us to be passive and beaten down. I refuse to let them have their way.
We should make it a point to broaden our circle of people we speak to about political issues. Too often I've noticed we tend to denounce anyone not like us as being unreachable. The truth is you never know until you try. I'm a firm believer that I can make a difference if I continue to use my voice. If I speak to 25 people in a week with opposing views and make one of them stop and think that's a good week in my opinion.
