Our secret weapon...the little old ladies
I posted several weeks ago about how surprised I was to find out that my 72 year old mother is a Jon Stewart fan, when she suggested that my local Dem group try to get "that nice looking, funny, smart man from TV" (as she calls him), as a speaker at our upcoming fundraiser.

Anyway, we ended up getting Stephanie Miller (how cool is that), so I turned Mom on to her show. I didn't know whether she had bothered to listened to her or not, until today, when I took her to lunch and we were talking about the Cindy Sheehan situation. She made a comment about a story she read about it in her local newspaper the other day (she lives in a very Red city) and dismissed it as "Right Wing World Talking Points".

She also said she has told all the other little old retired ladies in her swimming class about the two shows, and says that they all hate Bush and complain about him constantly.

I think Dubya needs to start worrrying when the little old ladies in Republican areas want to kick his ass...

24. My mom is no longer a republican!
She was a republican since she could vote and now, thanks to me, she's not a republican fan and she doesn't like Bush. Earlier this year I told her about all the Arnold problems and she said "that's how all republicans are." Heh heh. :) And my grandmother voted for Kerry too and said last year "we need to get Bush out." :D

3. Nope, doesn't pay to underestimate the elders.
They're not afraid to speak their minds at all.
OT: I've been the youngest by decades in one of those swimming classes. They flat wore me out. :D

27. Hehe
Yea. Even my own grandfather didn't like Bush. He was able to vote last year and earlier this year when he was fine he said our leaders were being such moron's (including Bush) at the Pope thing and saying they had no clue what they were doing and he didn't like Bush either.

4. My mom loves TDS, too.
But I lent her my copy of Jon Stewart's book "Naked Pictures of Famous People," and I don't think she entirely approved.

5. My 80 year old Mom thinks Jon Stewart is handsome & she voted against
Bush! But that is a secret from my pentagon spook brother.

6. That's so great!
That all these Mom's are dialed in to all these sources for the "real" news.

BTW, I completely understand about your brother. One of my sisters is a full-on Neocon Bushbot (married to a hardcore Dem, go figure). Politics are a subject best not broached at family functions. Mom made a "harumph" sound and rolled her eyes last time my sister said something glowing about The Chimp, and if looks could kill...

7. my office

is FULL of Little Old Ladies, ( me included ) who not only are hugely anti-* but are very educated about the history and issues involved. they are hugely inspirational to me. They're FIERY !!

i know i've mentioned elsewhere seeing a L.O.L. at the VN rallies while at college. she never said a word but i have never forgotten her silent strength. so wherever you are now, L.O.L. thank you for the inspiration.

8. Add my name to the little old retired ladies ready to kick Bush's
ass. I'm always talking to other little old ladies about how we need to get rid of him and all the rest of them. Had just a conversation today, and everybody was in agreement. Little old ladies can be smart cookies - we know bullshit when we hear it.

9. And another old lady waving wildly from the back of the room...
I don't want to be missed.

Our cardio exercise class and half the instructors are waiting for the Rapture....aka, the impeachment of GWB, Cheney, Rove, et al. We aren't sure we can take all that excitement, but we're willing to give it a go!

We worry about the world we are leaving to our kids and grandkids, and if we'll live long enough to see it straightened out again! In all my years, I've never seen a more pathetic mess than the USA is in now! No time to waste! (And we must not forget to get our money back from Halliburton!!! What a scumball company that is!)

25. Welcome to DU, frustratedlady. I'm going to have to join a cardio
class myself to get through all of this. That's my new goal; to live long enough to see the Bushco in jail, every damn one of them.

Only little grandmother who isn't against Bush is my grandma on my dad's side. I haven't spoken to her though since the election about politics so things might've changed. She doesn't have a computer and she doesn't watch much tv (only basic stuff) so . But I was happy my grandmother at least voted for Kerry. Oh and welcome to DU!

10. My 80 year old hillbilly grandma from Ohio said she is relieved that
her friends are finally starting to see through all of his lies (in 2004 she thought she was the only democrat in Ohio). She said "they're finally starting to see that a working man voting for a republican is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders". She loves Jon Stewart too, but she calls him "that sexy smartass Jew" (hillbilly ways die hard).

20. Thanks for the kind welcome...but may I add a comment....
I've been lurking for several weeks and I've gotta tell you that I am most impressed with the blogging world and the power it wields. I am amazed at how quickly information/old quotes can be found in the archives to refute statements being made by the powers that be.

I believe I began to follow the blogs with the Jeff Gannon/Guckert soap opera and you bloggers were pulling out information from all over the Internet. It was amazing. As far as I'm concerned, you can forget all about the media....blogging by the common folk is going to police politics in the future. You've got them tossing and turning in their sleep, just trying to figure out how they are going to regain control. Of course, they'll blame Al Gore for inventing the Internet in the first place. <grin>

18. Agreed and don't think they don't know it, ever wonder why they
are against helping the elderly so much with regards to medicare and so on. I have heard people state that old people that are in need have no one to blame but themselves, that they should have saved for their future and not expect the tax payers to take care of them in thier old age, some really horrid things have been said towards those that are in need.

So much so, that I'm a little jealous. :silly:

Seriously, she told me once (only slightly joking) that she thinks of him as the son she never had, and if anything ever happened to him she would freak out!
