Why the hell do all scandals have to end in "Gate"? |
|
Doesn't anyone have any originality anymore?!
How about this:
The Whistle Scandal
The Teletraitor
The Wilson Affair
Yellowcakes Revenge
My god! Those took about thirty seconds...Man I hate the media, a bunch of unimaginative hacks.

1. If they had a time machine, they'd call Nixon's scandal Watergate-gate |

4. it started with Watergate |
|
which, of course, was the name of the building the repugs broke into. I've always thought it a bit strange, because the 'gate' suffix really adds no meaning (although using it continually will eventually make it an official suffix).
Ain't American-English grand? ;-)

Paying homage to the scandal that brought down a Republican president (a real president, at that). What more reason do we need?
And Dubya would like nothing better than to have us abandon a name that brings to mind Nixon's undoing.

12. It started to compare Democratic scandals to Nixon's crimes |
|
I just read in Blumenthal's book that there is a specific writer who was a big fan of Nixon's that started using "-gate" for every Democratic scandal, in some sort of attempt to make Nixon not seem so bad. At least, that's what I remember.
