Went to purchase Pres Clinton's book in Wilmette, IL & was SNEARED AT |
|
The RepubliCANTS make me S I C K. I went to buy President Clinton's book and was given the BIGGEST death look by the employees you have ever seen. I purchased it PROUDLY and walked infront of them so they could see that a democrat supports President Clinton.
The store was at Borders in Wilmette, IL at the corner of Lake and Skokie Blvd.

1. Don't go back. Also, Borders is a very very blue |
|
company. Write to HQ about why you will not purchase a book in there store because of the "culture of intolerance" they foster.

5. I second that. Write to Borders HQ and describe the hostile treatment. |
|
Identify, if only by role and/or description, the employees who behaved hostile and advise them to make corrections -- if only to management who're obviously encouraging politically biased attitudes towards paying customers. Remind them that "the customer is always right" (or "left" in this instance).

7. While I don't dispute your assessment |
|
of the national political proclivities of the Borders company, I must say that the closet Borders to here (in Rapid City) has an almost liberal atmosphere to it.
Therefore your news distresses me.
Where in South Dakota can I find an acceptable bookstore.
(Actually I have three ideas worth checking out.)

14. I find most Borders to be very liberal in atmosphere... |
|
They seem to be very tolerant in letting their employees dress and express themselves in ways that make themselves comfortable. And it has a very good Buy Blue rating, so the experience at that particular Borders probably reflects the people of that community. I assume Wilmette is probably a Republican town.

3. i would have challenged them. i dont have a tough time with it |
|
then, if there was a bit of disrespect, i would have calle dthe manager in to discuss cistomer service.
an employee has to know their place. we have to start showing htem their place. draw the line
and the thing, once i got the manager, i would have gotten money back, let him know he would get no more of my money and it is the elist liberal that does the reading and buys the books, behoves them to make their emviroment welcome to us

Wilmette is the "Hamptons" of Chicago including Winnetka, Kenilworth, Evanston etc. It's very swank, wealthy and the IDIOTS in Winnetka voted for Dumb Dumb.

6. You are to be congratulated! |

I remember reading the Scarlet Letter as a kid. The thing that I was struck by was how limited their freedom was. Keep up believing in your ideals. If we are to be a free people, we must ACT free. Being a good American must allow for FREEDOM OF SPEECH. That does not mean just nodding your head yes.

8. Hey Chicago1.......welcome to DU...... |
|
where have you been anyway?? we have been waiting for you. I love Bill Clinton and what he did as President, I even forgave him for dragging us through the mud. The book was very interesting, I "read" it on CD, so Bill spoke the words. I would take notes, he gives some great ammo for rebuking folks like those Bookstore Clerks.......WTF, Illinois went for Kerry Big Time. Keep on Posting, we will check you out!

Are you quite sure that the employees were giving you the evil eye? You're not the least bit paranoid or overly sensitive? That happens sometimes. I have been guilty of that myself. Borders is usually a pretty good store. In fact, I bought my copy of Clinton's book at a local Borders. No offense meant by the way. Just wondering.

15. I'm one suburb below (Evanston) - voted 80% for Gore/Kerry. |
|
So it's surprising that that Borders was that hostile. Skokie is no right wing bastion either.

16. I know that store....I live two blocks south of Lake (Euclid). |
|
the Borders at Randhurst is quite lib....must be lots of young neospawns at your store
here's what you do: go print up some enlistment forms, go back, and ask anybody you recognize from before for some other book that'll set em on edge.
then, hand out a form to each youngster that displays such chickenhawk demeanor
