Who are these dreary, dreary people?
And why do they bother to post at DU?

You know, the ones who read threads just to reflexively post responses along the lines of "No one in the USA cares, has ever cared or ever WILL care". And then go on to point out various easy assumptions they cherish as proof that "no one cares".

And most annoyingly, the more that evidence of hope piles up - the more it seems like a tipping point has been reached or some genuine good news is finally at hand, the greater the number of boozy grumblers one has to endure in a thread! "Never mattered before so why would it now?" "People are too stupid for anything to help." "The MSM will kill this one" "Things just suck and always will." etc. etc. etc.

Are these trolls from FR with some kind of odd plan to make Liberals cry? The # of posts numbers are awfully high for that.

If these ARE DU'ers then let me ask why you sign on? If it all sucks and people are crap and the MSM can't be defeated and happiness just leads to disappointment and sure that's good news but just wait tomorrow your cat will get run over and even if we did win we would just die anyways - well.......OK........but why do the rest of us have to read it OVER and OVER and OVER? For cryin' out loud take it outside. Go have a drink and a smoke and say it all to the bartender instead (and then leave him a nice tip).

We all need to hear the bad news that shows we have made mistakes in our thinking. We need to hear _why_ something that looked hopeful fizzled a bit. We _know_ that things can look grim and we need to hear _explanations_ as to why the job may be bigger than we thought. But the sour, crappy-assed, Debbie Downer empty whining that plagues EVERY hopeful thread can........wait. Save your efforts. Your last 37 depressive mumblings were received and understood.

Hang up.

2. There are negative people on here, but that's
part of what it's all about. Their voices lend perspective. If I don't agree, I respond or tune them out. And peoples' moods influence their thoughts, so some slack is okay. Remember, we have a big tent.

3. Rough that you're having trouble with that
but hang around a bit longer, please.

If you disagree with someone, tell them and move on.

I see reason for hope. Not ready to claim victory. But I find great joy in the battle.

4. some of us have been here at DU a long time and have heard
Edited on Sun Aug-21-05 11:11 PM by Blue_Roses
many "promising" things only to have it fizzle out into nothing. While I'm not much for the "gloom and doom," I do recognize when it's time to take things with a grain of salt. Emotions run high here. This site is so far advanced the MSM that the frustration of not hearing prominent stories--like the one FINALLY being told on CNN (many of us sat and watched Powell and knew THEN it was a load of BULLSHIT)--is enough to make the very perky fizzle with doubt that we will ever see justice served on this fake administration.

This is where we vent.

5. Freedom of expression exercised freely.
Perhaps, to achieve some sort of catharsis, "Debbie Downer" posts her/his misgivings more often than one might like to see. Btw, DU has a nifty "ignore" feature. :)

10. Happiness & Sunshine
My mom used to say that if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Didn't agree to it then & still don't. I really don't think there is excessive negativity @ DU. I value being exposed to a wide array of views here, both positive & negative. :hi:

6. A lot of people are just venting.
Some may be trolling of course, but most are probably frustrated. (Like me for example.)
The chimpy-bananas and his blinded follows can do that to a person on occasion.

I hope not too much, but I've no doubt I do it at least part of the time.

7. I'm one of those negative people.
I'm no FR plant.

I maintain a very heavily regimented difference between what one should do and what a realistic expectation of outcomes is.

It is not empty whining. It's risk assessment and honesty about expected outcomes.

12. Not at all.. I am referring to something very specific
The 1 or 2 line replies that simply say "It won't help." or "It's too late." in response to every positive thread on DU. There are so many of those lately. Usually 4 or 5 in a thread. What good are they? How does "We won't win this one either" help or enlighten? If it's all too late, why is that person reading threads and responding?

I have been here since last Nov. and am just really tired of them - especially now that things are getting really interesting and looking hopeful. :argh:

15. I'm one of the pessimists.
The rigthwing controls both the media and the voting machines.

I've read of NO plans by progressives to buy a voting machine company.

With regard to creating a liberal version of Fox News, all I've seen is vague comments by Kos of The Daily Kos like:

http://dailykos.com/storyonly/2005/6/16/144525/370

"Now money is flowing into a VC fund that's looking to create an alternative to Fox News on the cable dial, while also building out other elements of a progressive media machine. The idea isn't to recreate what the Right did, but build a better machine tailored for the 21st century."

A venture capital fund by whom? For when? On air talent? Kos doesn't say.
