Quick Crawford Update And My Brief Explanation Of The Tent Thing.
Edited on Mon Aug-22-05 02:21 AM by DistressedAmerican
Hey Folks!

Partying in the room with Katinmn, Pura Vida Dreamin, Frictionless O and Distressed Sis.

Had a great night! The Joan Baez performance was awesome. I have never been a fan of folk rock. But, she was killing. Great message.

I got quite a bit of video of the camp and the show. I'll have to upload it overnight. I will get links posted for everyone in the morning.

To dispel some rumors. No one had ANY PROBLEM WITH DU's message. It was more about the "Come Out Of Hiding You Spineless Weasel" graphic. I got an odd vibe and some rather disapproving comments from a handful of organizers who didn't think it was on message. Odd since tons of people had a similar message, just not with a slick graphic and up on a backrack.

Today someone actually asked us to go back over to tiny camp freep. They had not even read the signs. They just saw the flags we were flying and assumed. It was a bit sad that people do not thing liberals can fly the flag anymore. Not me folks. I am taking the flag back and I recommend you do to.

I had bought a tent and brought it. When we arrived, there were several folks giving conflicting info about the set up plans. Some said put it up here or there. Then someone else would come over and tell us not to put it up.

Basically they wanted to make sure that the veterans and family groups were highlighted. They were worried about other organizations stealing the spotlight.

In the end, we had a tent but were not really allowed to occupy it or put up signs. I ended up posting my signs on some of the main tent poles. I left Anarchy1999 in charge of the tent. It is there and can be used.

Some folks were rather stressed. But, they have been at this for two weeks and are putting in some really late nights.

I got a bit of an odd vibe from a handful of folks. But, it was nothing against DU.

So, do not sweat it.

Anyway, I am going to get back to some partying. I'll post a bunch of the video and more pics with a write-up in the morning.

In summary, Crawford is an awesome happening. If you can make it in any way, I would really recommend that you do.

Oh yeah, the food they are serving is freaking tasty!

Frictionless waves Hi :hi:

3. I'm very jealous, I'm back home in Dallas and you guys are partying down
there. I felt like a little kid when MrA said time to go, now. "But Dad, I'm not ready to leave."

Drink a Corona for us, sorry we had to leave, we talked all the way home and I will resolve the "DU tent" issue or at least I'm going to do my damned level best!

Thanks so much you guys, you all are awesome and it was wonderful to get to meet you all.

9. Thanks for link and that
Also at Camp Casey today — “Liz Carpenter, Lady Bird Johnson’s chief of staff and press secretary during the Johnson administration. The 85-year-old Salado native called on the audience, especially women, to advance peace in lieu of war.”

WOW!

8. Joan is not folk rock
She is true people folk!
Early in her career she did some beautiful recordings of traditional and English folk music.
Acoustic guitar and no amp connected to the electric guitar is not very rocky.
Glad you are there and glad you got exposed to Joan Baez, have been to concerts of hers, even in Paris, she went to jail for not paying a portion of her taxes that would go to the Vietnam War, etc.
She is just a real HERO in my eyes and gives her wonderful talent for just causes!

10. And a people person
This isn't world changing but shows something about her.

In the late 80's she was doing a concert on campus. My young teenage son was walking through campus and saw her sitting beneath a tree, having no idea who she was. He noticed ribbons of many colors in her hair and stopped to tell her his mom wore ribbons like that sometimes too, he hadn't seen anyone else wearing them that way.

She invited him to sit with her and they talked about an hour about life, politics, nature and whatever came up. She did tell him who she was and that she was there to play. They hugged good-bye.

He really liked her, smart, kind, attentive, funny, warm. I was impressed that she'd invite a 15 year old stranger to share time and conversation with her. I already liked her music but somehow this told me a bit more about her soul.

She really blew me away! I will be talking about it for a long time!

Where is Bob Dylan when you need him?

12. You don't need Bob when Joan shows up. No way and no how.
Sunday night was amazing. Joan did not need Dylan for one moment.

See you later. We all have lots to post.
