AP: Power Cut Shuts Down Iraq Oil Exports >>>

The neo-cons can't even steal the OIL efficiently. If it weren't so deadly this war would be a joke.

Power Cut Shuts Down Iraq Oil Exports
By ABBAS FAYADH, Associated Press Writer

BASRA, Iraq -
Iraq's oil exports were shut down Monday by a power cut that darkened parts of central and southern Iraq, including the country's only functioning oil export terminals, Iraqi and foreign oil officials said.

Exports through the country's other main route, the northern export pipeline to Turkey, have long been halted by incessant sabotage.

Iraqi officials said sabotage was also responsible for Monday's blackout, which prevented oil from being pumped into tankers waiting at berths.

A port official and an employee at the South Oil Co., which runs Iraq's southern oil fields, said workers stopped pumping stopped at 7 a.m. Monday. Both men spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to talk to media. They gave no further details.

1. Yes, the whole notion that Iraq's oil revenues would pay for this war
Was a pipe dream from the beginning. The Iraqis knew that the real reason we were invading was for their oil, and have successfully sabotaged the oil fields and pipelines from the beginning. What little oil that does get out is almost immediately routed back to help fueling US armed forces, whose demand for fuel is part of what is driving prices higher in this country.

3. I wondered where all the oil they do manage to pump out
was going. Where is it refined?

5. I have no clue to where it is being refined
Last I heard is that it was being shipped to Turkey, and then being transported out from there. I would guess that this oil is being dumped into our strategic reserve, and that other refined oil is being exported from here over to our troops. But whatever they're pumping out of Iraq is just drops in the bucket as compared to our demand. Back in '03 it was predicted that Iraqi oil was going to start out being pumped out to the tune of 100,000 bbl/day, and increase rapidly to 500,000 bbl/day. Last I heard, due to logistics, attacks, etc. etc. that we're not even getting out 50,000 bbl/day.

4. "Both men spoke on condition of anonymity
because they are not authorized to talk to media."

I wonder what backlash they might face if they were identified?

I wonder what would happen to the support for this war if more reports were made of this nature in the mainstream media?

Kudos to the men who spoke up about it.

happy. Keepin the base happy George. Their oil is getting more valuable everyday - unless we Nationalize it?
