10. It's known by psychologists as the "sunk-cost" fallacy
and it's most often seen in failing small businesses and in gamblers. It's an unwillingness to abandon a bad business decision or to quit the table. Rationalizing staying the course on the unlikely idea that there is some way to recover the loss results in more and more loss until bankruptcy.

This a potential psychological trap for everyone, and currently not only Bush and the republicans but also notable Democrats (including former and current contenders for the presidency) are caught in the same mistaken thinking.

Our political leaders are now justifying a war they started with the casualties of war they started. And unlike the gambler or the risky entreprenuer who might reclaim their loss, we cannot reclaim the lives of dead soldiers.

11. War addict
trying to recapture the 80%+ backing he initially had? The glory? The praise? The adoration? The power?

Sick, evil insanity.

Thank you for your post. It does make some sort of twisted sense. Unfortunately, the losses incurred don't seem to affect the man in the bubble, and he's taking the rest of the world down with him.

12. I suspect that as a frequently failed businessman Bush
has experienced this before.

As a spoiled scion of a wealthy and powerful family his ass was regularly rescued when he got in over his head.

I can imagine that he really does believe that "something" will happen to turn this all around for him.

It will be just like being gifted with ownership of a major league baseball team.

And you are right that his obsession blinds him to the death and misery his decisions have wrought.

his head knows better! Second thought...how could we expect anything else out of the AWOL Ape, since his head is always up his ass? The GIs should follow the CIC's example and go home to mommy.
