We have all been warned..
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 10:56 AM by SoCalDem
Yesterday as I watched the "Crawford Cretin" gleefully proclaim that Iraq was the "First War of the 21st Century", he seemed so proud of himself.

That smirky little smile said it all.

He announced the Century of War with almost a toddler-esque pride...like when they run into the kitchen and blurt out "Mommie, I wiped..... all by myself"..

We are careening, hell-bent , into a century of Imperial attacks wherever and whenever the spirit moves our overlords.

The fact that "he won't be running again" is NOT a comforting thought. Look at the "bull-pen". There are rumors about Cheney picking up the torch (can he bend down, and then get back up again?). It's pretty obvious that Cheney is already running things, so little would change .

Then there is the lipless, cadaver-esque Frist. The fact that "he's a doctor" has not earned him many high marks for compassion or common decency. he would be no different.

There's always the Jebster, even though that idea is batted away every time it comes up. Our nation has already been texas-ized,.. could we survive Florida-zation?

Newtie is even being mentioned.. What a hoot that would be.. To move all the way up the ladder from a slug- to a newt.. It's Python at its best.

My point is this.. the head of the Hydra monster is interchangeable, and we have had our future set for us, regardless of which "monster" replaces the one we currently have..

We are officially a War-Nation..no matter who sits on the "throne".

No more republicans, you say?

Do we have a standard format for our nationally held offices' elections? Do we have recountable paper ballots?? counted on the same equipment in every precinct,in every state??

Until we can answer YES! to those questions, we are doomed to warlovers in charge.

1. Hideous, isn't it? Lots of war, plus we're killing off our planet, the
future can look pretty bleak sometimes.

2. Our ruling classes have moved the jobs (and their investments)...
overseas. Americans (whipped up occasionally with a 'terra' attack) are being used to protect these investments and to help the gain hegemony over the Oil that the investments run on.

As one wag put it: "What have we become? In a word 'Mordor'".

13. With his popularity at 36 and falling, look for more than an "alert"
I don't put anything past him.The people around him are actually more dangerous than he is, becaus ethey work behind the scenes, and there's very little anyone can even find out about their intentions.

4. Interesting
but I think you can throw crashcart out, I don't think he's going to last much longer. Jebbie, frist, newt, their all pretty much damaged goods right now and it would take a serious overhaul on their reps.
I believe we are going to see this boil coming to a head before much longer, within a year, the country is rapidly moving into divived camps. Either you love and support our most glorious fearless leader or you hate his freaking guts.
The hate his freaking guts camps grows larger every day, so it's going to take an outright act to declare marshall law and declare little georgie* first dictator for life.
Given how well they've run things so far I don't see that lasting very long.

5. It's time to get people into the streets.
Impeach Bush!

Of course most of our dem leaders are lilly-livered lizards themselves who may talk the talk, but when it comes down to it, have been serving the same interests.

Our country hasn't been this fucked up since the robber barons. And with the technology available now to stiffle dissent, I'm not sure that the average American will be able to organize in sufficient numbers to make a difference.

11. Speaking of lizards, think of the number of people at DU claiming to be
Dems who fiercely or sneeringly or solemnly tell us that we simply must vote for a lizard lest the wrong lizard be elected, and that anyone who resists that idea is a 'purist'.

12. Perhaps a new party altogether is needed
Centrist..for the middlers of the Rs & Ds ..I would bet that they would get more repubes than dems..

If you are opposed to what the repubes stand for, you cannot have people represent youm who want to be just like them.. Zell Miller and his ilk come to mind.. Just because they put a 'D' next to their name, does not make them a dem.

8. Exactly.. and who is in the bullpen for us?
Hillary?
Edwards?
Kerry again?

A media that has spent 30 years aiding in the un-doing of most progressive/liberal projects. 30 years marginalizing anyone who even dares to speak about the harm that's being done to us or our planet.
30 years finetuning the propaganda machine.

We may think that with AAR and a liberal here and there on tv, we will somehow "make it"..

It's going to take a whole lot of pain suffered by a whole lot of people to make any headway.

Even with a painful transition to a "better" leader, the amount of shit that will have to be shoveled out and disposed of will take more than one term, and by then the misdeeds of our current misleaders will have been whitewashed and forcefed to the nation again..

These people are vampires.. they slumber, but never go away..

9. I almost don't want to respond because
thinking too hard about this is depressing.

I will say this - nothing stays the same. Everything changes. The pendulum always swings. Even if we do somehow beat the voting machines and the corruption and the war-mongering, and achieve peace and prosperity, that won't last either. There will always be an undercurrent of power-hugry monsters who will do anything to be in charge.

I guess what that means is that we can't let the bastards get us down. We need to have the strength and the faith and the hope to keep fighting. And if we DO manage to win, we need to keep our leaders in check with just as much scrutiny as we put on the republicans.

Never Give Up.

:patriot:

10. Pendulums do indeed swing
It's just depressing that the national "memory" is short, and we seem to fall for the same crap every generation..

It's almost a miracle that we have managed this long :)

The only real difference these days is that back in the "old-timey" scandals and schemes that brought governments down, the press was a driving force to throw them out.. Small towns all over the country had MULTIPLE privately owned newspapers.

Things are very different these days//..

I have fingers crossed.. I fear for my kids more than myself.. I have maybe 15-20 more years on this planet.. THEY will live with the consequences for a much longer (meaner) time.:(
