The NCAA gave in to Florida State's use of Seminoles....... |
|
I wonder how they'll treat the lesser known, less profitable schools. I would guess a little differently. It's such a racket. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2141197

I was just talking to a Florida Gator fan about how absurd the ban was. I just put on my Seminole hat and am doing the tomahawk chop.
I think all they need to do is only ban bluntly derogatory Indian names or mascots (like Redmen).

use of the name. They had only one man complain about it.

3. Right, I knew they were in support of keeping the name. |

4. I'll believe this was their reasoning when they excuse North Dakota too. |
|
North Dakota's mascot was designed by a local Native American artist. There was a study done which polled Native American students and local tribe members which showed support for the name. And the University has MANY progressive Native American studies, including INMED (Indians into Medicine). But they don't nearly have the revenue or financial suing power that Florida State does. I would imagine that they might have a tougher time getting the NCAA to hear them out.
I predict that the NCAA will NOT excuse them and then give some bullshit explanation about how it's because of the "Fighting" portion of the school's name; something the "Seminoles" lack.
