Let's not forget about Jerry Falwell!
"...You've got to kill the terrorists before the killing stops and I am for the President—chase them all over the world, if it takes ten years, blow them all away in the name of the Lord." CNN Late Edition With Wolf Blitzer, October 24, 2004

"Thou Shalt Not Kill." God, undated/eternal

A quick check of falwell.com reveals:

I see that he has an "insider" weekly newsletter. I didn't know that some Christians were insiders and some weren't, but I guess God tells Rev. Falwell who the insiders are.

I see that students are pouring into Liberty University, founded by Rev. Falwell.

I see that you can sign up for Liberty University gift annuities, which pay a "up to" 11.3%. Hmmm....

I see that I can enroll in the Liberty Home Bible Institute and that with an enclosed scholarship it only costs $950!

I see that there are events and an eBible that you can spend your money on.

Clicking on the "Free Items" link I see that you can get free information about the non-free Institute for Biblical Studies and the non-free Liberty Home Bible Institute. Hmmmm....

I see that this website is "sponsored by The Liberty Alliance. The Liberty Alliance is a not for profit educational and lobbying organization." I guess Jerry Falwell is such a perfect man that he needs to educate and lobby others so that they will be just like him:

(from an interview) "I graduated from Brookville High School when I was 16. I had managed to obtain a driver's license three years earlier, before I was legally of age. My father attested that I was older than I was. So, I had my own car as a young teen. In those days, very few young people had automobiles. This made me the "leader of the pack". It also contributed to keeping me in constant disciplinary problems at home and at school. Playing football, basketball and baseball and providing the transportation for the "Fairview Gang" kept me very active."

I am certain that Rev. Falwell was an honest and abstinent young man.

Funny, I don't see much on this website about loving other humans, helping those less fortunate, and working for peace in the world. I mostly see that I need to spend money on certain things and those things all seem to require a payment to Rev. Falwell. I wonder if there's a guarantee I will get into heaven if I spend a certain amount. I wonder if I can get my money back if I can't get into heaven. I wonder if Rev. Falwell would help me if I were hungry or lacked shelter. I wonder if Rev. Falwell thinks Tinky Winky should be assassinated.

3. Taking the Lord's name and using it, as so many of these people do...

for material enrichment or the appeasement of a thirst for power, is rather sad.

I have to watch how I behave. I am trying.

4. I'd actually love to forget about Jerry Falwell.
As a person of color, his very evil face and slimy grin personifies the racist, repug, fake christian agenda he promotes at every given opportunity. I try not to think of him as much as possible!:puke:

10. I'll forever remember two nights after 9-11, when he & Pat Robertson
... speaking on "Christian" television, told America's faithful who was really to blame for the attacks of September 11, 2001.

I was glued to CNN, which I had never watched before 9-11, and I caught the short quote on the crawl at the bottom of the screen. I couldn't believe my eyes, so I waited for it to loop back around so I could write it down. The next day a columnist in the Los Angeles Times gave the full statement, just so we could all see what loathsome cockroaches these two men are.

Falwell on the attacks of Sept. 11: "The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way-—all of them who have tried to secularize America—-I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen."

Falwell continues: "God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve."

Robertson, replying: "Jerry, that's my feeling. I think we've just seen the antechamber to terror. We haven't even begun to see what they can to do the major population."

Then and now I state: their god of hatred and malice is emphatically not my God. I asked then, when would the Christians of this nation rise up and denounce these two? And I am so grateful that at last, at long last, people like Rev. Jim Wallis are doing so.

Hekate
